I hope that the site's administrators realize that the Sony/Blu-ray shills and trolls have basically scared away longtime posters such as Josh (aka Night Creature), Jason Vargo, and even John Puccio, who used to post with much more regularity than during the past six months. Tim Raynor is the only long-time visitor putting up a fierce fight against lies. In my opinion, Tim has done more moderating than the moderators.
Hats off to you, Tim. I especially liked the "TennisRichardHead" joke.

Agreed, three cheers for Tim.
Most of us who began posting here did so to have intelligent discussions of movies. Now even when someone tries to start a thread about anything other then Blu-Ray or HD-DVD it's quickly buried under a avalanche of shill and troll threads.

Unfortunately, sometimes an increase in traffic means a decrease in the quality of the traffic.
Good thing Tim is hear to fight the good fight. At least when he's properly liquored up.
By the way, Eddie, I told you you'd be back.

And we've all learned that Tim is very sharp when it comes to computers - an "IT" specialist I believe.
Just think, by being patient until the "hi-def disc format war" eventually ends with a clear winner, Tim will have saved much money as by then he will get a fully functional, low-cost player, with all of the profiles working. Yes, I know HD-DVD is like this -RIGHT NOW-, but if Blu-ray ends up being the winner (looks that way), Tim will be able to get a player that's up-to-date on the profiles, and probably for under $300 (or even $200). Probably a PANASONIC.

Good point LH, I personally was going to wait until there was a winner but after I bought my HDTV I was in the Market for a good upverting player. The store I was working at put the A1 on clearance because they were bringing in the A2. I paid 80 dollars after my discount. So it was an offer I couldn't pass up.
Keep up the good work Tim!

I know that I have not been here as long as you guys, but MovieLover said,
Your comment was like a ray of light from heaven. When I first started posting here TIM would get on my very nerves, but over time I realized that that's just him and roll with the punches because lord knows I tried to give him back everything that he trew at me. But back to MovieLover's comments, I found that after you find youself repeating the same thing or engaging in the same arguement over and over and over again, it starts to get old. That's why I try to keep my responses in a thread to two. Anything more than that then you find yourself trying to convince someone of something that they are dead set on the opposite. That's waisted time and energy, but I do like responding to non format war issues. As far as TIM goes, well he seems to be an DVDTOWN instituion.

Hey Movielover316... yeah, I'm still in the market for another HD-DVD player (to go along with my classic Toshiba A1). I want one as a 'back up' unit, and am just waiting for a new "free movie" (many discs) promo to come out again (maybe Sunday's newspaper ads?).
While I love my A1 (and I don't mind the 1 minute load times - those Blu-ray trolls look like idiots talking about 'how fast' a PS3 loads the disc, big deal) - I understand that the newer Toshiba players offer 1080p/24 output capability, and my new Pioneer KURO plasma allows a 1080p/24 signal to be input NATIVELY, without having to use 3:2 pulldown (so it will be a pure signal in 1080p/24, before conversion to the set's native resolution). Pioneer applies the 24fps to a 72hz signal (24x3, for better stability), so my 50" KURO 768p plasma will convert the 1080p/24 to 768p/72. And with no additional processing away from the native signal being output from the player.
But this feature wasn't available with the A1, so I like how the new Toshiba players give this option for viewing the discs. (My PS3 does it too by the way).

It's ABOUT FREAKING TIME someone titled a thread like this! Sorry I've missed it until now, and sorry I didn't think of it first, Tim, but, I think it's appropriate that Eddie did. WELCOME BACK EDDIE!!
Tim,
I have to agree, you are the man. I'm glad you're still around, and John for that matter. I think with Eddie, Chris, and some of the 'old timers' coming back, maybe we can clean up this town of ours! I've even seen Sean post on the boards once in a while. Why do I hear the "Cheers" theme starting? " makin' your way in the world today, takes everything you've got..."
Henning, John, Eddie, Tim, Sean, Chris, and all of the other old timers here, (and some of the new guys too),
I agree with Tim's sentiment. I really do appreciate all of you, and you are all the reasons I come back to DVD Town, time and again. With as much CRAP that's gone on here in the last year or so, I'm still very glad I stumbled across DVD Town, and all of you fine people, 5 years ago. You guys are all tops in my book.

Good thought. But the Sony and Toshiba trolls and shills would simply start posts in the regular areas, and we'd still get their nonsense in the "Latest Posts" column. There's no stopping a dedicated (or paid) shill.
And way to go, Tim! It's about time he got some recognition. You bet your assets Tim is one of our best assets.

Poor Eddie. Despite your university degree, behaviour-wise you've become exactly what you spoke against a few days ago, in this post (from another thread) -
Congrats Eddie. All of us realize now what an HD-DVD CHODE you are. Whether it's attacking people personally, or spreading untruths and biased misinformation about Blu-ray, you've quickly become the #1 chode for HD-DVD.
Sorry Tim, but it's obvious that Eddie is no different than the very "Blu-ray chodes" we've seen on this site for a few months. How I really wish it wasn't so. ...what happened to the -Eddie- that's done some very good movie reviews here (and on dvdbeaver.com)?

I think it was probably a bit more than firmware updates. I wondered how it got moved down so quick - turns out it's gone! LOL
As I recall I commented in it...I never did see a reply, but seeing as this is the thread on top and looking at another comment in another thread, I believe the children were upset.

So Eddie, what have you been up to? I remember you went to China for a while, then came back. What are you doing these days?

So what was said in the "Mr. Molbaek could you lend some of us a hand?" thread that was so bad that it got pulled?
I'm not sure, but to be honest, I don't think Henning likes me all that much. It could have been something I said.

Eddie,
"Admiral Feng"... NICE! Love the pic too, it fits. So you and Mr. Takei talk much anymore?
That's sweet, dude. Sounds like you've got a nice gig. Don't know about all of that "Austin" stuff though. I've been to Houston & Austin, both in the summer... can you say HUMIDITY?! Don't remember which was worse though.
Tim,
I'm sure it was something you said. I don't like you either.

if i had my druthers, then i'd be in california right now.

Hmmm, sounds like Arizona. However Eddie, you get the nasty humidity in the summer. If you and the gf want to get away sometime and deal with a dry heat, I always have a guest room.

Josh,
Texas is primarily known as a TRUCK-owning state.
And while the weather in California is often very nice (I have close friends that live in Santa Ana), after all of the bad news in past years of little rain and raging wildfires, I'm content to put up with the humidity here in Houston. The only thing we ever worry about here is the occasional hurricane (or threat of one).
And then there's the matter of California politics [Sacramento's far left wing congress, and a San Francisco mayor who thinks he can just make up laws on a whim, etc], plus the state's constant tax-increases, "green" environment restrictions/costs, occasional brown-outs, and more... (well, you get the picture).
Of course, both Texas and California (as well as Tim's home state in Arizona) must always contend witht he rapid rise of illegal aliens, and the cost they add to the government for services.

tony,
i wish i knew how to create a forum to go with a blogspot blog. the best that i can think of is to allow comments to be posted without being moderated first. would you like that?
if anyone knows how to create a forum at blogspot, lemme know.

How could anyone forget ENRON, eddie? (LOL) - yes, it was a bad thing that both Enron and Reliant Energy did, in gaming the electrical power supply assets they controlled in California. Unfortunately, California politicians "set up" the possiblity of the fraud, when they previously deregulated 'energy costs' in that state, but didn't cover all of the loopholes (which Enron geeks located). One of my older friends (near retirement) lost all of the value of his Enron stock during that 2001 disaster.

Gosh you're naive Eddie.
California's legislators 'enabled' the fraud to happen/develop. But those that did it (THE FRAUDSTERS) were Enron, Reliant, Arthur Andersen, the many lawyers and banks, etc. Didn't you see the doc movie?
You kill me man.

your logic is awful.
it's like saying that because a woman wears a skirt but no panties made it possible for her to be raped (so we should've all anticipated it happening).

You still are blind Eddie - what a lame comeback!
The fraud would -NOT- have been able to happen the way it did EXCEPT for California's legislators DEREGULATING the market. Hello? Didn't you see the movie? And you work for the IRS? Well, I hope you're good at math, because you're just not too bright when it comes to business and regulations, and laws, and...
Please do some research about this, or read any of the major best-selling books, and you'll see how these guys 'gamed' the system by committing fraud thru so-called 'legal' loopholes... which were created when CA's legislators deregulated their energy suppliers/market. What the fraudsters did was at times legal, and at other times (mainly) a FRAUD.

Oh, man, I don't know who started all of these Chuck Norris jokes, and, for a while, I just groaned at them, but I have to admit, some of them had me in tears I was laughing so hard.
How 'bout this one?
That beard that Chuck has?... it's not concealing a chin, it's really just hiding a third fist!

I'm waiting for the new episodes that were filmed on HD to appear in Blu-ray!
Edit: for those who don't know, that's Alex Lifeson from Rush jamming with Bubbles from a famous "Trailer Park Boys" episode. BTW, I have the Christmas special in HD saved on my hd PVR. That rocks IMO and makes the movie look like crap. WTF was that movie anyway? An American politically correct washed down version?
