Does anybody know anything more about the upcoming "Spiderwick Chronicles" movie? I assume it's based on the children's fantasy series by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi, but this summary of the movie at IMDb doesn't sound promising: "Upon moving into the run-down Spiderwick Estate with their mother, twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, along with their sister Mallory, find themselves pulled into an alternate world full of faeries and other creatures."

I mean, doesn't that sound almost exactly like "The Chronicles of Narnia"? I hope the new movie has more originality going for it than the plot summary indicates. Anybody got any inside info here?

I saw the trailer and immediately felt like it was the Chronicles of Narnia meets Jim Henson. Some of those creatures were pretty creepy looking.

I'm still debating whether or not I'm going to a press screening on Wednesday night. (I skipped today's to see "27 Dresses." We're celebrating Valentine's Day Wednesday instead of Thursday because of schedules. I was lukewarm on "Narnia" and "The Seeker," so I'm not sure this is even going to be worth the time.

John, I saw "The Spiderwick Chronicles" this past Tuesday at a screening.

Freddie Highmore does play the role of twin brothers, and, at first it's distracting, but, I got past it. The story did feel a little rushed, however. At the end of the film I found myself wanting this film to be closer to the lengths of the Lord Of The Rings movies, so that the story could be told with the quality it seemed to boast.

The story seemed to feel like a cross between "Jumanji" and "Willow". I don't, by any means, mean that in a bad way. Keep in mind, also, that the movie seems more directed at the pre-teen to teen audience. There is quite a bit of humor in this film, which I didn't expect, and I thought supported the movie decently.

As I'm going into the field, I did catch a few minor computer generated characters that had inconsistencies, but, nothing to get your nickers in a twist about. All in all, the CG was quite impressive, as should be expected from Lucas' "Industrial Light & Magic" or ILM.

While some of the characters (and or actors) were a bit over the top, it didn't detract much from the film. With great performances by David Strathairn (most recently as Deputy Director "Noah Vosen" in the Borne Ultimatum) as "Arthur Spiderwick", and surprisingly a great performance by Nick Nolte as "Mulgrath" in Spiderwick, it was an all around enjoyable film. I'm sure there are those that will poo-poo it, but, I had a good time, with my only major complaint, that I wish it was longer.
