For those of you privilaged few who have gone to see this flick, you are winners and losers. The winners are the ones who saw Final Flight of Osiris, which was, bar none, the greatest thing since grated cheese. The losers are the ones who stayed for Dreamcatcher (me) thinking it was going to be everything it was cracked up to be. Guess what!...

It's was the exact opposite. I was possibly the most disapointing thing I had to endure this year since new years eve. Don't get me wrong, I was entertained. The graphics were fantastic, the music was kickin' and the humor was great!

Excuse me! HUMOR!? This was supposed to be a R-rated horror flick, and they kept making the audience laugh. But that is just the tip of the ice-burg, the bottom line is that I don't think who ever made this film finished his thought. This film just doesn't know what it wants to be. When it tries to be terrifying, it's funny, when it builds up for a kick ass action scene, it sells the audience short. The logical progression of the story line is way off kilter too. Things happen, large and small, that just wouldn't happen normally (within the context of the movie). I won't ruin it for those who have not let this film grace their conscience, but for those who have I will just mention the word toothpicks.

I will say that the acting was terrible. Damian Lewis was terrific in Band of Brothers, but that wasn't a very tear jerking role, but when it came to that in Dreamcatcher, he just stunk. And finally, the child acting had me squirming in my seat. It was horrific, and probably the scariest thing about this movie.

My premature hopes have having this DVD grace my shelf are lost now.

Oh thank you thank you thank you, I've been looking for someone that didn't like that movie. Although my view is different, I thought it looked stupid just by the trailer, lol. Thanks for saving me $7.50 [:)]

Then you have non-horror stories such as The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. I think that they're good movies, but I don't like them enough to own them on DVD, though.

Well, I can't say it was that bad, I've seen much worse...Jeepers Creepers for example. I don't really feel the film was trying to find its place, like many others have expressed. In fact, I found it a rather simple plot to follow. I agree that the marketing of the film made it look like it was going to be just terrifying, however it was Stephen King all the way. I used to read a lot of King books back in the day and in my opinion if you could take It and Tommyknockers and put them together you'd have Dreamcatcher. I gave up reading King books years ago because of the lame endings he wrote. I never read Dreamcatcher but at least it appeared to have an ending.

I can't say very many King tales have transpired well to the big screen. The ones I have enjoyed were The Shining, Misery, Needful Things, and Deloris Clairborn, but that's about it. Dreamcatcher certainly wasn't a great film but it wasn't a complete disaster, either.

I'd add CARRIE to Tim's list.

Yes, SHAWSHANK, by all means. It's one of my favorite films, thanks largely to Morgan Freeman, whose narration alone makes the DVD worthwhile.

True, I was thinking only of Kings horror/thriller films, and I probably should have pointed that out. SHAWSHANK & THE GREEN MILE are a couple of my favorite films...then again I'm forgetting about THE RUNNING MAN which was writen under Kings old pen name, Richard Bachman. The Running Man is by no means a good film, but it's fun if you don't mind suspending reality for a couple of hours. The ironic thing is, with all the reality shows on TV these days, you have to wonder how much longer it will be until there really is a Runing Man reality show? LOL!!! [:)]

I really enjoyd the first half of Dreamcatcher, but then it turned all alien/ID4 and it was all downhill from there.

Never did figure out what the title had to do with the movie though.

Just thought I'd post that I'm a big genre and Stephen King fan, so I ignored the reviews and checked it out last night. Absolutely AWFUL.

I usually can find something to like in any genre film. Not this one.

And I can't think of any Stephen King adaptation I liked less. Yes, even Maximum Overdrive. Even Cat's Eye and Silver Bullet. And even the really bad tv movie "The Langoliers". They're all better than Dreamcatcher. As I type this, I'm still just in amazement at how bad DC really is. I didn't know how it could be any worse, and then I watch the original ending included on the DVD and found out.

BTW, a comment on the film version of "Pet Sematary." I not only think it's not a bad movie, I actually think it's a really good one. I remember the first time I saw it, I thought it was just mediocre, but I watched it again recently and thought it was actually quite good. Doesn't approach the book, but still good.
