Biker is right. Best Buy's support is nothing new. I remember when the hi def discs first hit the shelves in my local BB. The kid in that section was pushing Blu Ray saying it had way better picture and was the only way to go. Freakin retards, don't even know anything about hi def sometimes. He told the inquiring customer that HD DVD couldn't display 1080p. I'm not saying all BB employees are like that but many times the people in electronics stores don't know as much as a customer who has done their homework.

Best Buy [and others] were pushing the BD machines because they were and have always been more profitable. How much margin can there be on an A3 selling for 149.99?!!! That's cheaper than some Oppo upconverting DVD players! It also didn't help matters that Toshiba was the only HD-DVD player manufacturer (I don't count the Onkyo because I think they've already stopped production).

Well, Toshiba realizes that rentals don't equal to sales.

As soon as you log on to TigerDirect.com you can see a special offer from Toshiba, a FREE HD DVD Players (US Models A3 & A30) with the purchase of Toshiba LCD.

Seems like Toshiba havent given up on HD DVD.

OMG, some of you people. This is nothing new. Like I said in the other thread, Best Buy and Circuit City have been Blu Ray bias for a long time now. We all know that SONY has the juice, and GOODY GUM DROPS for them. But just because BB comes out, finally, and admits they will now push Blu Ray. Well they should have done this a long time ago. This is nothing new, and they will still carry HD DVD, until TOSHIBA SAYS IT"S OVER.

Just like you, BB's decision does not surprise me at all. I always knew that BB was biased and had predilection for BD. In my local BB store, the BD endcap display (end of isle display) has always been right infront of the high def dvd section (HD and BD) but I never saw a HD-DVD display until last week. After almost two years of High Def war, I finally found the HD-DVD display and is located on the oposite side of the store, about 25 yards away from the HD tv's and dvd's right next to the sound systems. And BB cannot tell me they didn't have the room for the HD-DVD endcap display because the dvd section is so long, there are two endcaps in the same vecinity, one occupied as I mentioned by the BD display and the other one filled with BD players.
Between Toshiba poor marketing and Sony's retail grip in America, HD was never given a fair chance to suceed.
