As you all know Warner Bros. has decided to release new titles in the Blu-ray format only after May 31st.
Some HD DVD owners have probably asked themselves can I buy the already released 140+ Warner titles on HD DVD after May 31st? We asked them.
"If there is product available in HD DVD and there is a request from a retailer, we will provide." according to Ronnee Sass, Vice President - Publicity & Promotion.
So, this actual means that they will re-stock after May 31st if the demand is there. However, Ronnee made it clear that the general rule is that titles will be out in SD and BD only after May 31st saying "There may be isolated instances that an HD DVD title will be created", but as a general rule our titles will be out in SD and BD only after May 31."

sounds to me that they may still support HD-DVD after may if its needed..

Well, I hope that is the case. But how will we let WB know that we want a specific movie en masse? Do we write a letter or do we start an online petition or something?

Sounds like one of the isolated cases may very well be The Dark Knight. It's going to be a huge blockbuster so they might want to go dual for that one. At least, I'm hoping anyways.

Then that doesn't mean exclusive. That means 98% BD and 2% HD...
hehehehe
I guess they'll wait to see what happens to the movies in theaters. If it's a huge, smash hit then they will release it in both but if it does really well it is only BD? Or does Toshiba have to call them and basically beg for an HD version?

Interesting

They will stock stores with EXISTING HD DVD stock if they request it. Just like Amazon still carries most Paramount Blu-ray titles, it's only because the Paramount warehouse hasn't yet run out of old copies in their warehouse and not because they are printing (and thus 'supporting' HD DVD). So this just means that they will indeed let stores sell all remaining stock they have instead of burning it. Online retailers like Amazon I'm sure will continue to update stock from WB until they run out, and it could take 1-2 years, who knows.

I bet these "isolated" instances they are refering to are their big franchises such a Harry Potter, Batman, and such. After all, it'll be nice for the HD-DVD consumer to be able to complete their HP series with all HD's. Let's hope WB comes through that way. After all, they make desicions based on what "the consumer wants", lol. )

This is whats called Preemptive ass covering. Nothing is ever 100%. Basically they're saying that if demand is there for HD DVDs then they will keep restocking shelves. I assume there's also a clause in Warners contract with blu ray that allows them to go neutral again if HD DVD sales are good enough.

with existing stock....until it's gone. They will go out of print then.

Paramount is doing the same thing with Blu-ray. Amazon still has 17 of the 30 Paramount BD titles in stock. They may even get in more copies of some of the other 13 titles they don't have. Even of those 13 titles, 3rd party sellers have reasonable prices (under $25) on all of them but 'Shooter' ($55) and 'We Were Soldiers ($45).

That's exactely what it means. It says nothing about the old stock of HD DVD's. Of course they'll keep stocking them until the inventory is depleated. They're not going to just throw them away. It says that in isolated instances HD titles wil be CREATED
So to answer the question of this topic...NO. If they are willing to put out HD DVD's, even in isolated instances, then that is not 100% BD.

With all the bullscat over the last few days about NetFlix and Best Buy, this is actually very good news. You have WB saying that in isolated cases they will produce movies on both formats. That seriously is very good news for HD DVD.
Like I said with all those anti HD DVD threads, IT AINT OVER UNTIL TOSHIBA SAY'S SO.

Ooh, my bad, I missed that part (I know it was bolded but I didn't have my morning coffee yet :lol
That certainly is encouraging to hear. By 'isolated', that would mean title with the highest demand, wouldn't it? Like a blockbuster? OMG, that would be so funny if they continued to release blockbuster titles in HD DVD and even reprinted copies of decent sellers like Batman Begins.

I've never read this one, but I have read a few weeks ago that Warner may replenish stock of movies that were already released on HD DVD, provided retail demand made it worth it.

But if your rumor is correct, I guess that means Warner and BDA have no contract and no money changed hands after all!

Sounds to me like it may only be special instances, like Batman, Harry Potter, etc. I doubt something like Jerry and Tom Go Fishing would make it to the HD-DVD section.

I was really hoping for a few more HD-DVD catalog titles from WB. I really wanted to get True Romance, which is one of my favorite Tony Scott Films, Creepshow, and Tango & Cash.

Yep, that would seem to conflict with the $500 million payoff rumors. I seriously doubt that the BDA would let WB do whatever they want with HD DVD if they gave them that much in subsidizes/cash.

Soooo, it seems that WB is not going neutral after all. And if there is a demand, then it kind of seems obvious there will be HD releases. Congrats WB, you are starting to redeem yourselves. Now watch and see what happens.

How so? That doesn't mean a thing. What if it was part of the deal that they were allowed to do certain isolated titles such as The Dark Knight?

Yes could be. Perhaps this title was preselected and included in the contract as permissible exemptions as part of their negotiations. In which case Warner should have really announced "We are going Blu exclusive, except for The Dark Knight".

Well it is possible, remember in the Paramount deal they excluded all Spielberg movies. However I'm sure it would have been announced in the Warner press release when they made their announcement.

The "isolated cases" they spoke of could be referring to titles that WB just distributes in North america. Such as BBC titles.

The funny thing is that I'm not an HD-DVD Fanboy. Sure I love the product, but i'm completely open to Blu-Ray.
