OK guys! I need you now more than ever! I will have about $450 or so to spend on whatever I want in a few weeks. What I need you guys to do is find me a reciever with 1080p HDMI throughput for $450. Impossible? Rubbish! I know there is one out there with my name on it! It need not be brand new.
I have an Xbox 360 with the HD DVD add on and a JVC 56" 1080p HD-ILA TV but I need a sound system to make it all come together.

For an extra $100 get the 705, WAY better, IMO. You won't be sorry!

Yea I'll save the $100 get the 605 and have a nice dinner somewhere!
I got a new SR605 on ebay for $350, a considerable amount cheaper than the 705 and its never let me down. I can do without the extra DSP, the extra 2 bands, the phono input and the 10 watts more power. However I would like to have the extra HDMI input!

I have to slightly disagree, the 605 is right at $400 bucks shipped from AMAZON. Both have DTHD and dts HD/MA decoders. Both perform upconversion the same. 3 HDMI ports instead of 2 on the 605, THX certification (overrated specs) and 100 watts per channel intead of 90 watts of the 605, Oh and a blue light around the knob.

The remote is also WAY better, and you can program macros in it, it is totally backlit, etc. and those arent the only specs that are better about the 705: look at this:
Why should I get a 705 over the 605?
General
- THX Select 2 Certification (605 has no THX)
- additional 10 watts per channel
- onboard fans for cooling
- Blue backlighting around the volume knob!!
- Advanced remote control - fully backlit with learning/programming abilities
Audio Processing
- 3 DSPs and more listening modes
- Audyssey MultiEQ vs 2EQ on the 605. MultiEQ is more advanced and supports 8 listening positions rather than 2
- 7 band equaliser vs 5 band
- expanded range of crossover frequencies (70Hz and 90Hz)
- ability to post process 5.1 channel PCM signals (ie from internally decoding BD/HDDVD players) to 6.1 or 7.1 (605 apparently cant do this on 5.1ch PCM)
- accepts DSD format (from SACDs) over multi channel inputs
Inputs/Outputs
- +1 HDMI input
- +1 digital coax audio input
- +1 optical audio output
- 7.1 channel RCA pre-outs
- Phono input
- 12V trigger out
- IR in (for infrared repeater systems)
- RS232 COM port
- zone 2 speaker connections have proper binding posts
PLUS it uses LESS power than the 605, and has no popping/clicking issues. Just my opinion though. And to me the THX is not over rated at all. I've bolded all the reasons I spent the extra hundred bucks on it.

All the other things as well, not just the blue lights, man I tell you the remote is worth it, it even runs my cable DVR and gets the the guide and everything, now I only have 1 remote, and I was about to spend $175 on a single remote, but this was a pleasant surprise and it is sturdy as hell. Not to mention it runs EVRYTHING, and is a learning remote, AND backlit, for those dark rooms at night.
