What do people make of rumours spreading that Toshiba is to pull the plug on HD DVD and Warner saying that they may release HD DVD titles in isolated instances after May 31st?

just my thought but i dont see HD DVD totally being phased out. I think it will still exist as a niche market, maybe only selling hardware/software online on Amazon or something.

It will be intresting to see what will happen, i have 3 theories

1) toishiba announces extra studio support

2) Toshiba continues support but also releases dual players cheap

3) Toshiba drops hd-dvd (least likley)

Time will tell , lets give it a week

In relation to this story... CONSIDER THIS OTHER ANGLE - the possibility that even after May 31, there still could be HD-DVD releases of Warner titles from OVERSEAS REGIONS. Sure, those regions may also wind down their own HD-DVD support (and go Blu-ray exclusive), but will it happen just when the date goes from May 31 to June 1? All I'm saying is, the very last Warner movies available on an HD-DVD disc could perhaps arrive OUTSIDE of the North American market... Batman: The Dark Knight anyone? Maybe another Warner title?

I remember when studio support for LaserDisc releases dried up in late 1998, early 1999. You could still get NEW titles on LaserDisc thru Japanese releases, and import them here to the USA, like X-Men, Mission: Impossible 2, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, The 6th Day, The Limey, The Cell, Bringing Up the Dead etc (several of which I have in my collection).

By the way, this thread's topic, and the mention of DVDTOWN making the request, was also reported on EngadgetHD - VIEW HERE (with reader comments following).

You should have asked "Does this mean that it is possible Warner will release NEW HD DVD titles after May 31st in isolated instances?" to end the confusion!

In stead you asked "Does this mean that it is possible Warner will release HD DVD titles after May 31st in isolated instances?" and prolonged the confusion and hope in the HD DVD camp.

Henning, on no other "neutral" site have I seen a reporter as RED as you. Your reporting is one so sided that it's funny, and the news lately only shows how painful WB's decision has been to you. Stop grasping at straws and start reporting whats really going on out there, the world is Blu and you should start to accept it!

Now stop babbling about this and do some serious reporting, how about Wal-Mart going Blu-ray only:

Wal-Mart has confirmed with Blu-ray.com that beginning in June the world's largest retailer will only stock Blu-ray players and movies. Over the next few months, they will phase out all HD DVD products and reorganize their stores to focus on Blu-ray.

Henning, why don't you contact Wal-Mart and ask them if they might make some exceptions if the demand is there?

OR, what Toshiba gave you to be such a loyal little follower of theirs. It works both ways my friend.

Henning, would it not be possible to make it a requirement, considering the current state of the message board, to require people to be members for a certain number of weeks before being able to post on the message board? It may prevent the same group of nuts (and "nuts" are not exclusive to one format) from signing up for account after account just to troll. Just an idea.

Anyway, I am an HD DVD supporter, who is waiting for 2.0 to go purple, but I certainly am not too optimistic that this means a possible future for WB and HD. I'd love to see DK come out on HD, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
