Microsoft has shot themselves in the foot by not including the HD DVD player in their box. Seriously, if Blu Ray wins why would people keep buying an xbox when they can get a game system and a hi def player in one for the same cost. I will not buy a PS3 myself because I love xbox games but I don't think the majority of people will feel like me. I could care less about Blu Ray which apparently makes me one of the few. Possibly when they are cheap I would change my mind. What is wrong with the analysts at Microsoft? Retards! I hope they are right about the shortages but that could just be cover.

To this day... I am glad that Microsoft DID... NOT... include the HD-DVD drive in the system.

microsoft made a smart move when they decided not to include it.

Microsoft have done verywell in there second attempt into the console world and if reports are true that the next line of consoles will come out from 2010 onwards i think microsoft may do even better.

Ps3 is an excellent console but it just doesnt have the same effect as my xbox 360 plus when reading the article xbox 360 software sales were way ahead infront.

I think sony adding the blu-ray to the ps3 was its major setback for gaming but probably its savior for blu-ray as a whole.

Lets see what happens this year and next to see how succesfull both consoles have done.

Dave27 the difference is that if Sony succeeds in Blu Ray then the PS3 will succeed as well and sell like hot cakes. That is until standalone Blu Ray players get cheap. If Microsoft had included the HD DVD player in the Elite version there would be a choice for consumers and the extra oomph to the format would possibly have kept Blu Ray sales down (sony being there main competitor in gaming). Wii is obviously the most successful but not in the same niche of consumers.

I agree 100% in most of what you said.

Iam saying microsoft were correct on there initial launch not to include it but in its revision "elite" theyshould have added the drive in.

I think in microsofts next machine we will see some sort of new format, time will tell.

I have however noticed how sony spouted 1080p gaming etc as there main drive yet I see more 1080p games on the xbox 360 too.

However that said the xbox 360 does not offer some games which i love on my ps3 too.

all these numbers do is show that sony was smart for putting the blu ray drive in their, because without it, they are losing like what 2:1 on software sales. I would rather sell 60 dollar games 2:1 than 30 dollar movies 3:1....And the xbox would have been to expensive with the hd drive in there. I have one, it should be your choice if you want HI DEF or not. With the ps3, you have no choice. Yeah its a great deal at 399 but think about how much money they are losing. There is a reason they are able to sell it for 399 and no other company (samsung, LG, etc) can get their prices down around 399 and because its too expensive. So imagine, take blu ray, plus a gaming processing chip and graphics card and everything else that a ps3 can do and put it in a box, and tell me your not losing a ridiculous amount of money for every ps3 sold. Sony can afford it, congratulations, now the real question is will gamers continue to play your crappy games at 30 Frames or will they get an xbox and enjoy nonglitchy 60 FPS....gaming is meant to be gaming. Most people who get an xbox could prob careless about hd movies, same with ps3, if you want to fool yourself in thinking that teenagers want to get a ps3 and spend 30 bux a movie...your joking. The ps3 has sales because its the cheapest option as a blu ray player, but as we have seen many times, the demographic prefers standalones, not gaming consoles...alright that is my rant lol
