Yeah, you'd think that the CH DVD alone would keep them alive because the Chinese would buy HD DVDs to play on them. Probably pirate too much to make our movie industry any money lol.

Let's be realistic now. Does HD-DVD really have a chance to come back with the same momentum as when Pramount switched sides? No way. There are no more studios left for Toshiba to woo. Warner was the last big ship that Toshiba relied on. At least if Warner had stayed neutral, it was 50-50 chance for either format. But now, its too late. I think Toshiba should let this format go, and join Blu_ray, so consumers are not confused. And studios will release more movies in HD format if there is only one format, rather than the wait and watch attitude. I was an HDDVD fan, I still own the XA2, and love it. I really wanted HDDVD to be the final winner. But, now that I own both formats, I can say apart from prices, both formats are identical in PQ. May be BluRay has an edge with audio, because of the capacity.

I think Sony and Toshiba should do a swap side. Lets see how it will work out.
Sony dropping Bluray for HD DVD, this will be quite a big news. haha

All I know is that it sounds FAR more likely that Toshiba will put out a dual player rather than dropping HD DVD completely.
Combo players already exist, and we've seen this trend before. When DVD players first came out, they could only play back DVDs and music CDs -- that's it. Now they can play MP3 CDs, DiVX, etc. It isn't very hard to just tack on HD DVD on that list.
I'm not saying that CH DVD is the Trojan Horse for HD DVD or anything, but I think it's still too early to tell what kind of impact that will have on the format being compatible with HD. With 1/5 of the world's population, that has the potential to be huge.

Are people stupid? Are they also going to stop carrying upconverting DVD players? Because that's all the Toshiba players are and then some. Ridiculous.

Didn't I mention this about a month ago? Didn't I tell people I talked to the electronics manager at Wal*mart and he told me they would be discontinuing HD DVD?
Of course, all you fanboys attacked me with "it's hearsay. You have no proof" or the ever popular, "I work at Wal*mart Tim, and you're wrong!"
Well, hate to say I told you so . . . but . . . I TOLD YOU SO!!!!

Well, it is a blog run by Wal-Mart, so I would give it some credibility.

Tim, it IS still hearsay. This isnt an official announcement, truly.
Something I will be saying a lot as this war winds down.
May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one

I guess WB was HD-DVD fans' Serenity Valley
