It's not about being fanboys, it's about Toshiba being blacklisted for no reason.
They have a product that:
1) Plays HD DVDs
2) Plays standard DVDs upconverted
Now, Wal-Mart and other stores sells DVD players that only have option #2 above. So why stop selling a product that does both? Does that make any sense at all?

Think of it this way. Let's say Fox and WB went HD DVD and Blu-Ray lost the war. Would stores stop selling the PlayStation 3? Of course not.
This is what is bugging me more than anything. I can understand that HD DVD lost the format war, but for stores to stop selling their players is baffling. It's like they think they only play HD DVDs and nothing more, which is a completely false perception.

Just supplementing the previous posts:
I know that some of you are not fans of bluray.com but I frequent the site almost as often as I've been here. So don't flame the messenger.

Wal-Mart To Exclusively Support Blu-ray
Posted February 15, 2008 by Josh
Blu-ray Disc Wal-Mart has confirmed with Blu-ray.com that beginning in June the world's largest retailer will only stock Blu-ray players and movies. Over the next few months, they will phase out all HD DVD products and reorganize their stores to focus on Blu-ray. This move comes days after similar statements of support for Blu-ray by Internet movie rental site Netflix and retailer Best Buy.
Gary Severson, senior vice president, Home Entertainment, Wal-Mart, U.S. commented, "We've listened to our customers, who are showing a clear preference toward Blu-ray products and movies with their purchases. With the customers best interest in all we do, we wanted to share our decision and timeline with them as soon as possible, knowing it will help simplify their purchase decision, increase selection, and increase adoption long term. We anticipate enhancing our selection with continued great values in hi-definition Blu-ray products, so our customers can further enhance their entertainment experience at home."

It makes complete sense... Toshiba had a chance to run slick ads.. They didn't. They had a chance to play word games about how much better "their" HD was... They didn't. They had chance after chance to cut checks to the hollywood studios. They didn't.
You can't stand in the corner claiming yours is better, and hope anyone hears you. You gotta push your product in the faces of the masses.

Well, I guess Toshiba has to just sell regular upconverting players and make them HD DVD compatible (but shhh... don't tell anyone).

WHAT choice do consumers really have when most of the movies or rentals they want only come in blu ? THAT`s not a consumers choice market, its forcing a format....

I agree, but that's not what I'm saying. Stores are dropping HD DVD players because they *think* that's all they play. If that's not true, then they would still sell them just like they still sell upconverting DVD players.

SONY is a devil company! A lot worst than Microsoft! SONY need to go to hell!!!!!
Yeah, as if SONY is the only company in the world to ever make profit by using "evil" tactics! As I've said, if I were to boycott a business based on the fact that I thought they were "evil", I'd never put gas in my car again.
IMO, ALL businesses pull dirty tactics to stay afloat and that's just the way BUSINESS WORKS! For the love of pete, you want to be pissed and shout at a company, then do it where it makes more sense and is more useful. Bitching about SONY is a waste of breath when companies like Exxon, Shell, Mobil Oil, Chevron and Texaco are getting away with real crimes.
