Toshiba should give it a few more months and see how Beta ray cope in the courts. It's only a mater of time before news gets round about the fact you will have to buy a new Beta ray player every year. I mean, $ony are talking about profile 3.0 now.

moonblade... you should read some of the DVDTOWN Blu-ray reviews by editor James Plath - who uses the original Samsung Blu-ray player (designed almost 2 years ago), for his Blu-ray movie discs. He's kept up with the firmware updates and can still watch the movies... so NO NEED TO BUY A NEW PLAYER EVERY YEAR (so uninformed!).

It's sad that the industry is dead set on having a single format. I mean we have Pepsi and Coke, yet they are still both colas with little difference. And what difference does it make having an additional disc out there for consumers? They already have 1-disc editions, 2-disc editions, 3-disc editions in standard DVD alone. It's not like it would hurt anyone, but oh well.

You know, this is an area that really interests me. If you take a look at the gaming console arena. There are multiple formats, and although one system may sell better then another, it would appear that all the players in the market thrive (perhaps I'm wrong stating this). Why can this not hold true in the film market? Certainly some consoles have their exclusives but you are seeing more and more multi-platform games coming to market. Or better yet, why doesn't the console market demand a single platform? I would imagine development costs for software developers would decrease and probably 100s of other reasons to move to a single platform.

Sorry, boring day at work for me today.

I would not believe a word of what a "reliable spinsider" has to say, if there is any truth to this at all.

Why didn't Paramount and Universal go Blu exclusive before the end of CES 2008 as was reported that they would do??

Sources close to the negotiations all said that was what would happen, how were they wrong???

All these opt out clauses, and supposed warehouses of Paraversal Blu Ray releases already manufactured that would be on the shelves by January 8th???

Some Sony crap about the PS3 having a 100% RELIABILITY RECORD, and 9 OUT OF 10 XBOX360's DEAD OUT OF THE BOX??

All from these "INDUSTRY INSIDER", "EXTREMELY RELIABLE", "FIRST PARTY CLOSE TO THE NEGOTIATIONS", "SSHHH, I AM KEN GRAFFEO, AND UNDER A NON-DISCLOSURE, BUT HERE IS A SPOILER, JUST DON'T TELL ANYONE WHO TOLD YOU" Bull$#!t has been running around not just HDM but every other industry in the world for YEARS.

NASA faked the Moon landings, and they are keeping Hitler's Brain Alive In A Jar.

Sure I heard that HD DVD is dead and Toshiba is pulling the plug too, but at least I heard it from Martha Stewart, who got the tip from her "INSIDER STOCKBROKER PAL" telling her to dump her Toshiba Stock today, so you know it has to be true.

Press conference at Toshiba HQ 5 PM today!!! TRUST ME!!!

OH wait, TOSHIBA is in JAPAN, it's 2AM SATURDAY MORNING THERE ALREADY, HOW CAN THIS BE???

But Martha was sounding so sure...

The press conference already happened, they must have it on tape delay to give Toshiba execs time to commit suicide before it airs.

If true, plan to see Sony cancel ALL of their co-licensing agreements, and emerge as the only Blu Ray player manufacturer.

Why do they need competition if they are the one??

The entry level PS3 system will move up to $999, standalone players $1499, and the Blu discs will retail at $59.99 each.

Cancel BD-J interactivity and BD revision 1.1 or 2.0, there will be no competitive demand to force them to implement it.

You won't see another BOGO again either, sorry.

Actually, Sony is going to buy the HD DVD name from Toshiba and change the Blu Ray name to HD DVD, because they didn't like that Blu Ray name from the start, and Toshiba already had copyrighted HD DVD.

Sad story for all, as this is how Sony always operates, and we can only expect more of the same from them in the future.

Hold on to your SD DVD's, as they are going to be around for a reeeeally long time.

Oh, and cancel my Netflix subscription too, they just announced that they are dropping DVD for VHS because the US Postal Service machines don't shred the mailers as much.

Never did like VHS much, the clock always had me confused, I thought it was dinner time but it always said it was 12:00, 12:00, 12:00, 12:00....

It all doesn't matter anyway, we all know that Nostradamus has predicted that the world will end in 2012, and his predictions curiously always come true..

Gosh, do you have to insult your own intelligence, with the above FUD? If what you say above were to happen, Blu-ray would disappear from consumer adoption overnight! Of course, Sony has more 'smarts' than you.

Hendrix, I think VideoCipher is just upset and grieving. So it's best to let the guy vent regardless of the content of his posts IMO. But if he has an XA2 plus movies to sell on the cheap, I might be very interested.

Hendrix, come on man. A 5 year old can tell that entire post was tongue in cheek. I expected better out of you.
