So much for that trend as according to this week's Nielsen VideoScan numbers courtesy of Home Media Magazine Blu has put red back into the teens with a 81/19 split. It isn't too hard to figure out what 's driving the numbers this week as Warner and Sony take most of the market with new releases and the number three title outselling four by about 2:1. HD DVD's new release did make the top 10 at number nine, but only sold a fourth of what Sony's Across the Universe did -- who'd a thought it'd be number one though. Next week is going to be a lot of the same, but with so many HD DVD sales going on, we'd be very surprised if red wasn't back out the teens. But with every week that goes by and Paramount and Universal fail to announce new titles, we just can't help but believe that all these rumors that the end is near for HD DVD are true.

Blu-ray had 9 of the top 10 High-Def sellers:

This isn't anything shocking and frankly I anticipate the Blu-ray sales to continue to increase and gain further market share.

With Walmart and Netflix going Blu-ray exclusive and Best Buy giving Blu-ray the priority I think we can all see where this is going.

Since the Warner Blu-ray exclusive announcement at CES 2008, Blu-ray has captured 81% of the Market Share [(85+83+82+74+81)/5 = 405, 405/5 = 81].

Oh well. Toshiba really needs to make some sort of press release soon, because they are just keeping quiet now and it's not really doing anything for anyone.

I'm not going Blu-Ray anytime soon though. I like my HD DVDs and the upconverting is fantastic too, and most Blu-Ray players are not up to specification standards right now.

So now a new war begins...

Which company wants MY money? Who will be the first to put out a standalone player that has great upconverting, 2.0 specifications, IR remote -- all for an affordable price?

Still don't understand HOW, with it being more expensive! Is this BD players or DVD's? (In the pie chart)(Sorry for my ignorance).
I go into stores and the HD titles are almost gone but the BR titles are always full. I know BR has more titles but I'm talking at places like Wal-Mart. My Wal-Mart has pretty much the same amount of BR titles as they do HD titles.

I saw something interesting on TV last night. When a movie is coming out of theaters and on to DVD, the advertisments says "Coming soon to DVD and (either HD DVD or Blu Ray)" this ad last night (can't remember what movie) said "Coming soon to DVD and ON DEMAND". It said nothing about HD or BD. Thought that was interesting.

Neither, it's software sales (Blu-ray movies to HD DVD movies). However the last NPD results of two weeks back showed that Blu-ray continued to outsell the more expensive SA players as well.

I would have guessed lower for Blu-ray, considering that the week before numbers seemed to be improving for HD DVD and the BOGO sales continued in its favor. I expect the numbers to be much worse with this negative publicity for HD DVD next week.

I don't see how this shocks anyone. How many blockbuster releases has HD DVD had in January/February?

The same thing as last year. The big titles didn't start flowing until March or April if I remember correctly.

So Tim, since it looks like we have a winner, are you going to be buying a bluray player now?

Falcon, I don't know if you noticed but "Planet Earth" on Blu-ray outsold "Elizabeth".

Does that really need an explanation?

I need to get the HDTV first. I should be getting a pretty good tax return this year, thanks to all the high interest I paid on my house. I've been shopping around already and just trying to find something that makes my eyes happy, plus decent contol features are a must for me. I can't believe some sets I've seen have those "we know what's best for you" settings!

Oh, well, I'll just keep shopping till I find the set that does it for me. I think I'll wait on the going Blu unitl all the kinks are worked out, and no, the PS3 just doesn't interest me at this time.

I agree. I'm gonna wait until all the kinks are worked out also which will probably take a couple of months at least and the PS3 doesn't interest me much either. In the meantime I will keep buying these ultra-cheap HD DVD movies for the next few months on Ebay, Amazon, etc.

I figure by the time bluray has a movie that I really want they should have everything working properly and hopefully the price of bluray players will have come down. If not I'll keep waiting.

Well OK, point taken. But one would think with the way Planet Earth has done for the last freakin' year, anyone who owns a player on either format already owns it!?
