What if that was what the announcement is going to be. The fact that there's really no more development needed for there machines because they are COMPLETE so they are going to now spend there money on advertising and push the sale of the HD DVD players and HD DVDs.

Would it make you feel better Bowfiend if we said it's a gold release? Then we could refer to Blu-Ray 1.0 as Alpha, 1.x as Beta and 2.0 as Gold...

Either way, just because you don't like something doesn't mean it isn't relevant.

NutManIV, who you replying to?

Anyway, it seems Blu-ray has been market ready for quite some time, since I've been enjoying hi-def movies in that format for awhile now already.

I'll admit the profile thing is annoying. However HD-DVD fans need to put things into perspective. If it wasn't for HD-DVD, Blu-Ray might not have considered these features at all. I personally like PIP so I'm waiting for a good 1.1 player unless I get a really fantastic deal on a 1.0 when they go clearance.

Also something to keep in mind HD-DVD fans, how do you think Laser-disc owners felt when ads for DVD were touting things like directors commentary and 5.1 sound and acting like it was a completely new idea? When laser-disc owners were already enjoying those features. It basically boils down to the same thing.

I guess you really do have to be a die-hard fanatic to spin that as "good news" for HD DVD.

It's like the format fanboys saying: "Nielson numbers are not accurate because they don't include Walmart sales!".

Then when Walmart announces Blu exclusivity: "Well Walmart doesn't sell any HDM anyway. They don't matter".

I think I've had about enough irony for one format war

I think what he meant was that compared to HD DVD, Blu-Ray may have been "market ready" but it still was a bare-bones machine when comparing features.

Anyway, I'm looking at the Panasonic DMP-BD30K. I like the reviews, and its 1.1 compliant. 2.0 doesn't really bother me anymore since I doubt I'd use online features anyways. I also like what I'm hearing about how it performs with the Onkyo.

Does anybody have this model with any reviews?

As a format HD DVD is complete. As in it's market ready. Blu ray currently is not. Sounds like you're upset about that for some reason. Oh, and the definition you used actually doesn't make sense in the context you used it in.

Blu-ray has been market ready for a while now. HD fans keep whining that it's not final and this and that, but the fact remains going forward ALL Blu-ray players will be profile 1.1 capable and towards the end of the year most of them will be profile 2.0 capable as well. Guess what, the only people that bought into the early profile (so called obsolete) players were the early adopter who knew that they might be getting a somewhat incomplete player, yet they took a chance on them. They always do, that's why they're the early adopters. Everyone knows that $400 and above price range is not mass adoption ready, but by the end of this year you will see players for well below $250. And those players will all have the necessary profiles needed to views pretty much all the special features of movies. Not that most people really care about special fetures, but hey it always seems to be a point of argument.

hoodaguy, The Panny BD30 has been called the best standalone Blu ray player on the market, and when the BD50 drops I'll retire my PS3 and use it for games only.

One great thing about the Panny is it can decode DTS HD Master and send it PCM over the 5.1 analogs. As far as I know this is the only Standalone player HD-DVD or Blu-Ray that can do this.
