Well lastnight I was looking at Blu ray players and saw one from Denon that had only an HDMI output. No analog outs, no s-video, no optical, no nothing just HDMI out.
You must be talking about the DVD-2500BTCI.
I think everyone agrees that this player is a poor introduction to Blu-ray on Denon's part.

Speaking of forthcoming Blu-ray players...
I wonder what the final specs on this summer's new SONY SAPPHIRE Blu-ray player(s) will look like?
Oh... Sony/Blu-ray haters need not care.

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but the Engadget article in your post is dated 01-08-2007. The pics of the two Sony players you see are of the BDP-S300 and the S500.

Yeah, I already knew that (about the pics) and the report date ... but HAVE NOT HEARD anything further about these 'Sapphire' players since CES... hence why I made the post.

Alright! You don't have to roll your eyes.
Anyway, there is still no new news about them other than what you probably already know.
Two prototypes, the Sapphire 3 and 4. The only major difference between the two is that the Sapphire 4 decodes all high-def audio, including DTS-HD MA and the Sapphire 3 does not. They're both profile 2.0 players with 1080p/24p support.
