With the end near for HDDVD, what titles are you guys looking forward to seeing come to the BR format? I myself can't wait until the original Star Trek comes to BR, and also the Matrix series should be cool.

Looking ahead the Alien series should rock, and the LotR trilogy as well.

Matrix trilogy, Batman Begins (they were a timed exclusives), Bourne Trilogy, Transformers, King Kong. These are just a few of the major movies that are already out on HD DVD, but with Universal there could have been a lot more in the future. Not to mention that I want Braveheart as well and that would have been released by Paramount.

For me it would easily by all 6 Star Wars movies. Other than that most of the ones I want are already out on either format and needless to say some movies don't need to be on hidef, they're good enough on DVD.

I'm gonna see if I can score Star Trek Season 1 currently on HD DVD for cheap as it appears to look really good with nice features.

They weren't timed exclusives Warner choose not to release them because they couldn't implement the PIP and guarantee they would work on 100% of Blu-Ray players out there.

That's what I meant by timed exclusives. I didn't mean for a limited time, I meant they were exclusive until certain features were guaranteed to work on most Blu-ray players. But see how long that would have been, more than two lines.

Woah fellas, I did not mean for the BR haters to come to this thread and talk about what features did not work and why certain titles were not released on BR, just to say what releases you would like to see come to BR is all. Man, every time someone posts something with the HDDVD or the BR haters have to ruin it with their garbage posts.

kucoloco, I already have The Island on Blu-ray as a German import. It was released in Europe by WB. Even though it only has DD 5.1 for sound (which still sound great), the PQ looks pretty amazing. It's worth to import. You can get it from Amazon.co.uk for about $30.

LOL, ok, I just wonder if Warner will do an all new encode, or just simply port over the HD-DVD transfer. Most likely they'll just port it as that's the easiest option.

Of course I wonder if they'll do a new version of Batman Begins to coincide with the Dark Knight.

I know this is about HD-DVD exclusive titles to BD but in the other hand, if WB still releases a few titles in HD-DVD after May since they said they might, if WB releases Dark Knight and the last two Harry Potter films Id be more than happy. )

Only a select few titles are actually region locked. The vast majority of Blu-ray imports all work on U.S. players. I also have Next that I got from England, and a few of my buddies have 1408, Death Sentence, Bruce Almighty, Starship Troopers, Face/Off, 12 Monkeys all imported from Europe that play on U.S. players perfectly fine.

Alien is a Fox title and Forbidden Planet is an MGM one. They were always BD exclusive.

W R O N G: It was on HD-DVD and I had it. When I dumped my HD-DVD stuff, it went too. Show me where one could buy it on Blu ray. I mean today, not after HD-DVD dies (in the VERY near future).

MGM was the original studio that released it theatrically back in 1956 and also on every home video format until 1997. It looks like their rights to the film either expired or were bought out by WB. WB re-released it on DVD in 2006 and looks like they will be releasing them on both HD platforms as well. OOps. Anyway, it wasn't an HD DVD exclusive title nonetheless.

Yup, and I've owned it for the same "while". I enjoy the special features on this one as well. But "Adventures of Robin Hood" has this beat feature-wise. It took me about a week to watch all of it!

And those are the special features I enjoy too - ones that I actually learn something from. It was all fascinating, and I'm not one to normally sit though special features. Most of them went unwatched on other standard DVD and high-def movies I own.

Just remember it was released by WB on HD DVD, so it is only temporarily exclusive like Matrix and Batman Begins. Plus it was announced about a week ago that it will be released on Blu-ray in the Summer of 2008.

Eddie explained the current 'film ownership' real good last year (forget where). Basically, most (not all) of the old MGM catalog is now owned/controlled by Warner (classics like The Wizard of Oz, Gone With The Wind, Ben-Hur etc, to refresh your memory). The cut-off date is around the early 1980s - so the more current titles are NOT owned by Warner.

The James Bond series goes back to the early 1960s, but MGM still owns those, and similar titles they didn't sell to WB. Maybe John or Eddie will post the clarification about rights.

Ted Turner's Entertainment division owns some of the old RKO Pictures library, which outside of some nice LaserDiscs released in the 1980s/90s, are mostly hard-to-find outside of his TCM cable channel.

Hey Bow I attend a Classic Horror convention every summer here in Pittsburgh. And this year they are doing a salute to Vincent Price. If you go to Creepylassics.Com you can get the scoop on the convention.

Not sure if this was posted or if anyone has seen it yet, but this was posted at http://www.thedigitalbits.com:

Quote:
On that note, we've suddenly begun hearing from multiple retail sources that new Paramount Blu-ray titles have just begin appearing in their inventory software as "on order" or "available for pre-order," including Blades of Glory and (apparently) Transformers. Yes, you read that right. We have yet to officially confirm this, but we're working to get more information on it. For the record, I was unable to get a response from Paramount on Friday (they seem to be in a bit of a media "lockdown" mode at the moment - which is probably no surprise given last week's events).

If you've not been to the bits, its a great site. They certainly denote when things are not confirmed and usually get back quickly with confirmation..

Anyways..Transformers..you lucky HD DVD bastards been enjoying this for a while..I'm hopeful we'll get to see it soon.

None of them.

I already own them all on HD DVD, why would I need to re-purchase them on Blu Rat and put more money in $ony's pockets???

That has been an inside joke at Disney/PIXAR for quite a while now.

Ratatouille, a movie about a Blue Rat, Exclusively available on Blu Rat...

Happy waiting for all those HD DVD exclusives to show up Blu, I can go watch them right now on HD DVD, and have been doing so for many months.....

Dude, the format is not Brainwashed-Ray.

The BD moniker stands for Brain Dead, as it has from day one.
