View profile »I should note, that a friend of mine who owns the Samsung 1200 player - that although he can now play the Fox BD+ discs (such as The Fly, and FF2: Silver Surfer) after the recent update, at least one title with BD-Java - 3:10 to Yuma - will NOT load/play. Surely, Samsung will issue another FU to address this.

On that note, we've suddenly begun hearing from multiple retail sources that new Paramount Blu-ray titles have just begin appearing in their inventory software as "on order" or "available for pre-order," including Blades of Glory and (apparently) Transformers. Yes, you read that right. We have yet to officially confirm this, but we're working to get more information on it. For the record, I was unable to get a response from Paramount on Friday (they seem to be in a bit of a media "lockdown" mode at the moment - which is probably no surprise given last week's events).

Is DD+ even used on Blu-Rays? I was under the impression that it wasn't really supported by any of the players.

View profile »Actually, several players can decode it internally, but it is seldom ever used on movies. Out of the 490 or so Blu-ray available, only a handful of movies contain DD+ tracks.
If there is no true lossless track available on a certain movie then usually Blu-ray supporting studios opt to use DTS-HD High Resolution Audio instead of DD+. Or even just a high bitrate (1.5 Mbps) DTS core track.
