wil-lite... maybe you can get a government investigation going as to why Sony no longer supports SuperBit DVD releases...?

Oh, and maybe an investigation as to why more studios don't support releasing movies on UMD (for PSP). Or, that DTS isn't added to EVERY DVD release... or, why Fox (or whoever has the rights) hasn't released The African Queen on DVD yet (in North America)... etc

And maybe some other things you can think up...

Do BD supporters mean to tell me, and expect me to believe, that the International DVD Forum is just going to give up and concede the entertainment industry to Sony and its BD?

YES.

I also do not feel that BR is trying to replace DVD.

Uh... You think Sony is TRYING to be the next LaserDisc?!?!?! You bet yer butt they wanna be the next DVD, otherwise, why spend the BILLIONS in marketing and advertising and ploying U.S. film studios? It's not to be a damned niche product with 10 feet of aisle space in Best Buy, I cant tell you THAT!

I do not think that at ll. I am just saying that they will not replace dvd at least not anytime soon, until that time, they can happily co exist.

There is NO WAY that BR is going to topple S-DVD anytime soon. As far as HD discs, they now have all of that market, which not everyone has or will buy into for a long time.

They are now THE only HD disc in town. I don't see standard dvd going away for a long time though, at least not like VHS did when sdvd came out.

Exactly...

I am pretty sure in fact that you can still get VHS for certain titles. I know the walmart near my house still has a small section of them. So in that way DVD will probably always stick around to some extent. Eventually though (3-5 years from now) BR will take over the majority of the market share. This is assuming of course that the format itself is ever "completed". More over that the HDTV "revolution" ever really takes off. At this point most people are still SD.

The next year will really tell the tale. So far HD groups have been able to explain away the niche marketshare on uncertainty due to the format war. We will see how the solo HD format fairs now that the war is through.
