The best metric for measuring a movie's quality is the amount of money it makes in the box office...
With the 42 million on opening night that Matrix: Reloaded got, it is on track to be the best film in history....
Bye bye Titanic, and bye bye Harry Potter, the best movie in the world is coming your way....the question is....do you believe?

Hogster,
$42 million for opening day is pretty impresive. It certainly is well deserved and it's nice to see a sci-fi movie that does what a sci-fi movie should do, and that is to challenge the mind. By far, MR makes that Star Wars saga look simply childish. I can't wait to see the how much it makes over the weekend!

? By that measure, you're saying that 'The Matrix Reloaded' is better than 'Bend It Like Beckham'...which it isn't. :-P
I know that you're kidding, Michael, but some people out there actually DO believe that money is a good standard for judging quality. Yuck.

If it really wasn't that obvious, I was COMPLETELY joking in my previous rant. That whole black empowerment thing was such a stretch of my imagination that as I look back on it now, I have to laugh about how absurd and ridiculous the post was! I was literally just pulling s**t out of a**! I wanted to find a reason to retort to poster5's initial post about disliking the Matrix, and also to lighten the mood and play a little joke in a very good friend, because I know how seriously he takes things sometimes, and as we always have in our over 5 year friendship, I just wanted to take an opportunity to play a joke on him with such a ridiculous post. And to help the readers understand where I was coming from, I hadn't even seen the Matrix Reloaded at the time of the post! I simply wanted to respond to his post, but I didn't have enough knowledge of the movie to be able to come up with a counter-analysis, hence the stupid, overplayed race-card angle.
The only reason in the world I posted something so absurd was for the sheer comedic value of it! I do not condone racism or racist beliefs, nor do I believe that posters5 does either! After knowing him very well for over 5 years, nothing could be further from the truth than saying he is racist! He is person of good character whom I would gladly vouch for anyday! I wasn't even talking about racism or being uncomfortable with persons of African descent; I was referring more to ethnically-based militancy and socially motivated violence.
Regardless, I sincerely believe that characterizing my post as libelous is hardly appropriate. I never called posters5 anything, nor did I say he was this or was that, believed this or believed that--I clearly used qualifying terms such as perhaps and I believe he may and subconsciously. If the other forum readers of DVDTown look back on my posts on other subjects, you will see that I tend to have the most absurd and sometimes nonsensical posts in the forum. And as one of my best friends, posters5, I find it hard to believe that you would actually take my post so seriously. I refuse to argue about the the merits of whether what I posted constitutes as libel; I'm sure such a discussion would need a separate forum of its own. All I admit to is being a jokester.
I do apologize to the readers if they did get that impression about my dear friend, and I apologize to posters5 for making him feel as though he was the victim of supposed libel (however preposterous). However, let it be known that this apology is of my own volition--I will not be intimidated by silly threats or by those who do not agree with what I write, or by those who know better than to take such silly posts by me WAY too seriously. There is this little thing called freedom of speech that I respect and I take very seriously. Everyone is entitled to believe what they believe, and although I may not like it, I must respect that right. As an extension of this, it is also my absolute right to attack someone's personal views about a film or try to ascertain someone's motivations behind a publicly posted opinion, and it is their absolute right to defend themselves and come right back at me. And besides, I was just J-O-K-I-N-G. I would never actually personally attack a person in a forum (it is illogical and does not normally further opposing points of view), but all I'm saying is that if I chose to, that is my damn absolute right.
I like Tim's attitude--it's only a movie, it's only a movie, it's only a movie. Also, sometimes we all need to take a step back and realize that we sometimes may take ourselves way too seriously over topics which hardly warrant such strong feelings. As an old uncle of mine used to say, we all need to lighten up. Jeez.
This is the first serious thing I've ever had to say in all the posts I've ever had on this forum. CLEARLY, there is a big difference between this post and all my other posts, and I'm sure all the readers could easily recognize this. When I have something serious to say, anyone would be able to tell from a careful reading of it. I will attempt in the future to take these a forums a little more seriously, but please know that in the future, if you do come across something that seems absurd coming from me, 99.9% of the time, I was probably BSing my way through it.
Sincerely,
The (unofficial) DVDTown Jokester

Michael, it's a well-known fact that those British cars give their owners plenty of grief. However, since those people are so rich anyway, they don't care if 5 of their 8 cars are in the shop for $20,000 (or £15,783) repairs.

Rodney, perhaps you WERE joking, but given how difficult it is to decipher exact tones when reading Internet postings, I ask you to be careful with what you write. What if someone misunderstood your verbal feints and thought that I was the Internet version of Trent Lott??? I really, really don't need to be depicted as a racist (or anything that I'm not, for that matter), even within the context of a joke.

'Bend It Like Beckham' better than Reloaded? Jeez at least compare it to a movie that at least MIGHT beat Matrix. Lord Of The Rings, Star Wars, Trek... but a soccer movie?? Please tell me you're joking...
