Was anyone else disappointed with the image quality of this movie on Blu-ray. The black background "grain" was terrible and I'm curious if I just received a poor copy or if others had noticed. Since I purchased my PS3 a few weeks ago I'm still in the beginning stages of my Blu-ray library and have noticed this soft grain texture on the backgrounds in Goodfellas and Spider-Man 3 as well.
I watched 20 Million miles to Earth as well yesterday and noticed the same grainy backgrounds (colorized version) but fully expected this due to the age of the print.
Clearly though, the background blacks on my HD-DVD Goodfellas disc is perfectly sharp while my Blu-ray copy has the grainy texture. So, I guess my question is: Is background grain an issue with some Blu-ray discs? I was going to pick up the Patriot on the current Amazon deal but some mentioned the same grain issues with the print.

It really depends. There are some blu ray transfers which are terrible. I have Sleepy hallow and it is terribly grainy. Others, typically ones that are blu ray only, are better. I can say that the patriot isnt bad to my eyes.
