With all the news as of late, I can imagine that there will be a few people turning to Blu-Ray (like me) sometime in the near future. For the past few months I've been reading reviews on this site for movies in all formats, but I'm still interested in finding out some information from Blu-Ray owners:

What are your Top 5 movie recommendations of the format currently?

For "movie" value or "transfer" value?

Like "POTC - At World's End" was a great transfer, but I'd probably not put it near my top 5 list for entertainment value Same for "Shoot Em Up" - demo quality transfer, but just darn right silly in the movie department. Movies like "The Host" though I thought were underrated both for movie value and what I thought was demo quality video material.

Do Warner titles count?

These five are both amazing movies and have spectacular pictures. Sound varies from excellent to spectacular.

Apocalypto
Blade Runner
Close Encounter of the Third Kind
2001
3:10 to Yuma

But it's hard to only pick 5. Here are a few more great looking and sounding titles:

The Rock
Crimson Tide
Deja Vu
Gone in 60 Seconds
Enemy of the State
Underworld 1 & 2
Hellboy
Halloween
Dawn of the Dead
King of New York
Stir of Echoes
Swordfish
Bram Stoker's Dracula
The Fifth Element (remastered)
Black Hawk Down
Reservoir Dogs

The first generation Philips, the BDP9000. It's been good to me for over 9 months, but in a few weeks I'll be giving it to my parents since thay have a nice new Philips LCD TV anyway. That should be a good match.

I'll be buying a PS3 soon, but I'm also getting a PC Blu-ray drive and either the upcoming Panasonic DMP-BD50 or Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD in a few months. This way all the rooms in the house will be covered.

From the instore Blu displays I've seen Cars and Ratatouille looked incredible. Once Blu hits my pricepoint I think Cars will be my first disc. Thanks for everyones input on this. It's good to know what are the good transfers and what to avoid.
