Ok so It is time to pick the brains of certain people who visit this site. The ones who truely know the ins and outs of this format war.
What do you think we can expect from Toshiba the rest of 2008? Will we still see HD DVD movies coming out? Will we see any developments from Toshiba, wether they will produce a Blu Ray player or a dual player? Do you really think there will be fire sales galore with HD DVD movies?
I know alot hinges on the final report from Toshiba, one that I hope surfaces tomorrow. But I am just weighing in out what we HD DVD fans can expect and what to do the rest of 2008.

I expect that all the annonced movies will make it out. I expect price slashing across the board for HD DVD's and HD DVD players. Online retailers will be trying their best to get rid of HD DVD inventory in the wake of Toshiba's official announcement. I personally will snap up as much as I can before it all goes away into obscurity like Laserdisc and Betamax.

As for Toshiba, they are a hardware manufacturer primarily so I think we'll see a Blu-Ray player from them, but not until Blu-Ray settles on a finalized spec. I don't thik Toshiba is happy with the way Blu-Ray is leading consumers on with an unfinished spec so they won't apply any resources towards the Blu camp till that is sorted out. They make enough money on standars SD DVD and their other electronics to remain a viable player in the industry for quite some time.

Barring some monumental announcement, Toshiba will eventually (and rumor says this is already happening) stop producing HD DVD players, and cut the cost to retailers to take them off their hands. The players will sell for cheap for a while, until they become hard to get, and then prices will go up on ebay and the like. All anounced titles will come out with a slightly lower MSRP. I think you will actually find that big retailers may reduce prices on discs, but ebay prices will go up, as those who do own players will try and stock up before they're gone. Toshiba will try and find a way into the production of Blu players, and will likely release one with 2.0. They may release a combo if we're lucky. In the end, Toshiba wil survive, but nothing groundbreaking will happen. They had an opportunity to win this war after the Paramount defection, but they sat around and did nothing, and Sony took it from them. Toshiba has played this whole war much too conservatively, and therefore they lost. I expect they will continue to be conservative, so don't expect anything wow-worthy from them.

Toshiba Agenda 2008:

Stop manufacturing HD DVD video players for now.

Concentrate business on HD DVD-ROM Data products for the PC Market.

HDTV, HDTV, HDTV, and HDTV....

Dump the remaining hundred-of-thousands of already built HD DVD players on the consumer market.
