> FYI - was browsing Amazon's site tonight, and a company named Echo Bridge Home Entertainment is releasing several new Blu-ray editions of movies and TV shows in April ($13.95 MSRP, with $8.95 Amazon's sale price) - Link to TITLES include...
-10.5 Apocalypse/Complete Miniseries (2006)
-Curse Of King Tut's Tomb/Complete Miniseries (2006)
-The Last Sentinel (2007)
-Category 7: The End of the World (2005)
-Blackbeard (2006)
-Artie Lange's Beer League (2006)
[same film as the Warner release]
...more to come?
Also, for music fans (like myself), the deluxe 2-disc, recent Blu-ray release of CELINE DION-Live in Las Vegas is now on sale for just $15.95 (which I purchased today). When you wait a little, the price always falls.

I wonder if these will be standard definition on Blu-ray.
It'll be nice to have a little variety, anyhow.

Huh? Have there been any "SD" releases on either HI-DEF format? All of those titles are RECENT FILMED PRODUCTIONS, so I don't see how they would only be in 'standard' definition, and on a Blu-ray disc at that!

Hey IB... Yeah, BEERFEST has already been released once on Blu-ray (and HD-DVD) by Warner (January 2007). I'll have to rent it.

Everyone... the more I think about these new releases, at discount prices and what it means, is this...
The Warner announcement (for Blu-ray exclusivity) was 6 weeks ago now, and it's the general opinion that this basically 'ended' the format war (and also with WalMart and others falling into line). So, forthcoming releases on Blu-ray are going to be more prevalent now that there is to be only ONE major hi-def disc format in the marketplace.
And companies like Echo are definitely not wasting any time in getting out of the 'starting gate' with some new HD content, at lower prices, than what we've seen so far. I can easily see even more of these lesser-known content distributors bringing their catalogs to Blu-ray in due time.
Remember, most of these companies make their profits from home-video DISC SALES, and now that Blu-ray is the apparent de facto "hi-def" disc format of choice, it's time to bring HD versions of other titles to market (along with their standard DVD counterparts).

LH,
I was in Vegs last year and wanted to see Celine Dion. Tickets were $500. I'm glad that I can now see her in my HT for under $20.

IB... I recommend MONOPRICE.com - always low prices and excellent products. VIEW HERE for a 4x1 HDMI 1.3 splitter (excellent value).
I've purchased cables, etc about 4-5 times from them over the last couple of years, and they ship really fast.

For marketing reasons, according to a comment posted on CNET: http://www.news.com/5208-10784_3-0.html?forumID=1&threadID=35255&messageID=378775&start=

If true, BD disks are actually cheaper to produce than DVD's. So now that BD has won, a low budget company can produce SD movies on BD disks in order to allure consumers into buying the movies. We gotta remember that the average consumer has very little knowledge (if any) of the real differences between HD and SD.
This tactic would also explain the low price of only $13.95 ($8.95 Amazon) for a brand new BD movie.

wil-lite... of course, Blu-ray discs will ONLY play in a 'Blu-ray' brand player (or PS3). And if I purchased a Blu-ray disc, the feature had better be in HIGH-DEFINITION (1080), or I'm not going to be happy.
And as for Blu-ray disc replication, I believe DVD production costs less than Blu-ray - not more. This fact has been mentioned before.

For the sake of all that is unholy!!!! Those are SD transfers of the regular SD DVD's that you can buy literally for $1 at Wal*Mart! But hey, they are on Blu-Ray now, so pay 9 times the original cost for the same SD shit. THAT is the Blu-Ray spirit!!

Settle down Beavis!
Can you proove your statement above with a confirmation or link? Those programs were all filmed recently (the last 3-4 years), and we -are- talking about Blu-ray HI-DEF... hello?
"SD transfers?" - I don't think so.
And as for "$1 Walmart DVDs" - that's a crock too. I visit Walmart occasionally and have never seen mainstream DVDs for just $1, much less a recent TV miniseries broadcast in HD (like a few of those titles I mentioned at the top of pg. 1).
We'll all just have to wait for upcoming reviews, and/or viewer feedback comments on Amazon, etc.

I think that makes perfect sense, I was puzzled of why somebody claims BD are cheaper to produce than SD-DVD's. I tried to find actual official data on the production costs of BD but nothing. Maybe somebody else will have better luck.

Plus... even before replication you have the HIGHER BLU-RAY MASTERING COSTS compared to the expense of mastering a title for DVD (or HD-DVD). While it's probably lower now than two years ago, it's still costs several thousand($) more to produce a title for Blu-ray, compared to DVD etc.

As a proud Canadian I can honestly say that I am embarassed by Celine Dion. She talks out of the side of her mouth like our old Prime Minister Chretien....she sounds like a French trucker when she talks, hard to believe that same voice can sing.
And her attitude...talk about a snobby diva, get over yourself already!
If Quebec decides to try and separate from the rest of Canada there better be something in writing saying they have to take Celine in the deal!
