"Microsoft's plans for HD DVD won't change as long as they continue to see strong consumer interest and their partners remain committed. Sales of HD DVD players have remained brisk and there is a healthy catalog of more than 400 HD DVD titles offered at retail," she wrote in an e-mail Friday.

well no matter what the 360 still brings in more cash than any of the game systems. If they end up with a bluray player add on i hope it works well. Or wouldn't it be funny if they came out with a build in bluray player. After all if the format war is over then it could be possible, but i don't think so

All Billy Gates had to do, was put an internal HD DVD drive in his 360, and we would'nt even be having these discussions. I will give SONY big time credit for adding a Blu Ray drive to the PS3.

I love how people think Bill Gates does everything at Microsoft. You guys really think he has much control over the gaming division? Especially now that he isn't even the head of Microsoft? I guess it's easier to blame it on him then say... The entire staff who works on the 360 SKU's or the market analysts or the production staff or marketing staff or even the budget staff.

I'm pretty much repeating myself here but... I don't understand why everybody's so upset at Microsoft over not bundling the HD drive. The 360 also came out a year before the PS3. How much do you think the HD drive would have added to it upon release? They didn't want to tie their gaming console's future to an unproven format. Sony made a huge bet in doing so. They've cornered the Blu-ray player market while Microsoft has owned them in the gaming console arena. It is simply what they were going after. Sony had market domination with the PS2 and pretty much took it for granted. Yes, Microsoft could have pushed the format more but let's be honest. They're a software company not a movie studio.
