Seeing as HD DVD seems to be losing momentum, this is some real breaking news!
I've noticed Samsung seems to back VHS over Beta too...coincidence?

You know, that's kinda funny. I still see Samsung as a Beta testing company still. No matter how many prducts they release, they seem to Beta test them on consumers... There Motto should read
"Samsung, Beta testing for the Competition..."
If it wasn't for Sony holding their hand for the last four years, they would be done...

I don't know where you got that from. Samsung has become one of the world largest and best CE companies within the last 10 years or so. They supply most of the industry with curcuit boards, lcd and plasma panels, flash memory and semiconductors. It's actually the other way around. If it wasn't for Samsung designing and manufacturing many of these components then some other companies, which heavily rely on them, would have gone the way of the dinosaurs by now. Sony is actually one of the biggest clients of Samsungs, not the other way around. Who do you think supplies Sony with it's LCD panels and circuit boards for all of their televisions?
Anyway, occasionally every manufacturer makes some mistakes and Samsung hasn't been immune to that either, but I still say that most the problems reported about their Blu-ray players are software related and not hardware related.
