With the Onkyo 605, it has 2 HDMI slots and you have to designate what each is for. I selected DVD player for one of them (for my HD DVD player) and now I picked up a Blu-Ray player so I wanted to select DVD player for that one as well.

However, it won't let me since DVD player is already in use by input one. My question is, if I designate the slot as Cable/Sat will it still work? Basically, is that just for display purposes on the Onkyo or will I need to do some other kind of set up? Thanks!

cable/Sat should be fine. as long as you know what it's for. It's not like the receiver is going to know it's not a cable box.

I have a 605 and a PS3 w/ cable. My PS3 is in game input and I watch movies with no problem and my cable is in input cab/sat. If you run into any problems (which I think won't happen) just run your Blu ray player into game.

Thanks Movielover and Tony! I'm assuming it's just for display purposes only on the receiver itself so you know what's in use. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

I guess if worst comes to worst I could always go into the Onkyo settings and change the HDMI for whatever I am using before I use it, but that is a hassle I'd like to avoid if I can. I don't really mind if it says GAME instead of DVD as long as it still works.

Just wanted to post an update. I hooked up the Panasonic to the Onkyo and I designated the HDMI for it as GAME/TV and it works! Thanks a lot for the help.

I do have one other question though. For the video settings, it says 24p is off. Should I turn that on? I heard from some that it's better to turn it on, but I just want to make sure before I start messing around with those kinds of things.
