Well, that should be after midnite here.

Sorry to all those who were hoping to start their HD Trek collection on HD DVD too, as another story says that's stopped (I have no idea how dependable that site is anyway) but if it's true I hadn't intended on buying it anyway until the whole series, if ever, were to come in a less expensive HD-only version.

Personally, I think combo disks also contributed to the death of HD DVD.

With regards to the bits:

They've been around for a really long time (I remember going their for DVD vs. Divx). They have been blu for a while and they state their reasons why. Bill Hunt the (the editor) as far as I can tell seems to be pretty accurate when it comes to un-reported information.

Again, nothing is anything until its officially been stated.

Combo disks didn't kill HD DVD. False Hype(Smart Advertizing), manufactures support, and retail chains forced HD DVD to die...

Indeed ReaggieP, Indeed

And at this conference Toshiba will announce that they just finished up the details on paying FOX and DISNEY to join HD DVD, lol. I can dream anyway, haha.

ReaggieP... FYI - let's remember that the money that came out of consumers pockets $UPPORTED Blu-ray media more than HD-DVD media.

You don't think that the fewer sales of combo disks contributed to manufacturer support declining?

I know it was multiple factors, but I really do believe that the poor sales of combo disks was one piece of the larger picture that did it. Again, it's only my opinion.

Combo discs were never marketed the way they were supposed to be anyway. Take Warner's Harry Pooter combo that they say was supposed to be the same price as other non-combo HD DVDs (which I saw for five dollars more at Target today) they were never marketed to the DVD owners. The only people who knew about them were HD DVD owners who saw it as paying more for something they didn't really need. Sure not 100% of the people feel the same way about that, but I bet a vast majority do.

Advertisements, from Blu-ray as well as the lack of them from HD DVD, were probably some of the biggest factors. I never thought I'd buy another game console, but here I am with a PS3.

So many factors! I do wonder how the official statements will go.

The Digital bits editor Bill Hunt is a Fully Paid Blu Shill and has been for quite a long while, just take a brief review of his site and you will realize he has been Insanely Blu Biased from the start.

Don't take anything you read there as fair and honest.

At least here on DVDTOWN you get to hear the best and worst from ALL sides, "da' bits" censors anything that doesn't shine Blu.

Well, I just pre-ordered American Gangster, Beowolf and Jesse James on HD DVD. I had a rebate card from AT&T on my Blackberry, so that worked out well. From now on, however, on I'll be looking for HD DVD bargins and saving for a new Panasonic BD player.

And VC, you are right about Bill Hunt. He was shilling for BD in 2006 when I joined DVD Town. Unfortunately, he was right.

And, speaking of shills and trolls, hold on to you tighty whities tomorrow after the press conference. They will be flying!!
