I would like to know what the turn around time would be from taking an HD-DVD (Transformers) and putting it out on Blu-Ray? Another question would be are they gonna hold onto titles and wait for more tie ins to turn up. Example: Would they release Transformers now or just hold on to it till Transformers 2 hits the movie screens next summer? So many questions left on all of this. Anyone heard anything?

It depends on whether the studio wants to re-master the movie to take full advantage of the Blu-ray superior storage capacity. If so it will take longer. Otherwise the conversion is rather quit and shouldn't take more then a few weeks.

I wouldn't hold my breath on Universal, but I know that Blu Ray Paramount titles have been manufactored all along and are just being kept in storage. Face/Off, Transformers, Zodiac, etc. So then it just becomes a question of releasing them.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment Craig Kornblau also said:
Universal is being smart, they see that HD DVD has failed, it's time to move on to the bigger and better format called Blu-ray.
Toshiba needs to take note. They should immediately embrace Blu-ray and announce plans to come out with their own line of Blu-ray players. Not only will this make them oodles of money, but it will help make happy again all of the crying HD DVD fans who refuse to buy anything from Sony.
Now that there is a single format you will see an acceleration in the widespread transition to Blu-ray. Prices will fall for both players and media. The PS3 will have a tremendous year. Microsoft will be force to create a Blu-ray add-on for their 360 or watch it fall further behind the PS3 in 2008.

i think this whole hi-def war has left a bitter taste in their mouth. i could see them doing Blu-Ray players once it becomes more widespread with the population over just the, well, tech nerds. i think i read on msnbc they are gonna focus on flash drives
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23204819/
I think they'll also wait for the final profile to come down the pipe, but what do i know i'm just a structural drafter.

we've only seen one month of sales numbers with the ps3 in 2008. i think they will see a small spike in sales but not a huge one over all. The ps3 needs to start getting exclusive games happening. as for the add on i think it could happen, but then microsoft is gonna have to pay Sony for the rights and such for the blu ray. i don't think they really want that over there head. i wouldn't be surpirsed to see xbox team with netflix. we'll hopefully find out at GDC this week!!

PS3 is already selling at a faster pace overall then the 360 RROD box has.
With Blu-ray winning the PS3 is gonna own. The only chance M$ has is to make a Blu-ray add-on ASAP.
Otherwise they're done.
PS3 already has better exclusives then the 360, and the horsepower to boot.

Why would the hd dvd suppporters be happy about having to spend $400 to $500 for a new player to watch the same movies with the exact same hd transfer? And there is no certainty that having one high def format will speed up adoption for hd discs. Right now people are not really focused on hd movies and I can tell you from personal experience talking to average joe consumers at retail that they really can't tell much of a difference between sd and hd movies or they just don't care. Thats why 90% of all movie sales are still dvds. And as far as the ps3 beating out the 360, there going to have to start selling more games for that to happen. It could happen but I doubt that it will this year. Microsoft is already rumored to be in talks to buy Epic Games Studios which would lock up several key million-seller franchise titles just for the 360. The ps3 as a games machine will continue to be 3rd place until their owners start buying more games. And until they begin to get exclusive games (or exclusive gaming experiences like the wii) that are not already available on other systems its not going to make much of a difference in gaming sales.

I just gotta know what the ps3 has over the xbox in the category of exclusives that are big sellers?
The biggest sellers on the ps3 are cross platform. We can argue opinions about uncharted being better than gears of war. or halo 3 over resistance, but when you look at the actual sales numbers that you love to quote, the facts are the ps3 has yet to really push the games out.

Proportionately to the number of consoles they have out, yes the PS3 has actually "pushed" the games out.
Motorstorm is by far the best off road racing game ever made. It is a PS3 exclusive, and always will be.
Motorstorm 2 is in development and scheduled for release these year.
As the PS3 overtakes the 360 in total sales you will see the game sales numbers doing the same.

You can say what you want about HD DVD, but the 360 is killer that pice of crap PS3. I am planning on buying one as a blu-ray player. But that doesn't help them sell games. Wouldn't a video game system with no one playing games on it be a failure? I mean isn't that what it is made for? There is what like 3 good exclusive games? I think 2 aren't even out yet. Scott Baio you are living a dream to think that is a good game system. Good movie system though.
Oh yeah the new twisted metal game got me excited about the ps3 but turns out that will only be for the ps2.

The only reason the PS3 is doing a little better is that most people would rather get it as a 2 in 1 player vs getting a standalone unfinished player and price.

there is no shame in crying even as a grown up. you're the one posting 3 topics saying the same thing. where have you been all this time? why show up right when the battle is over? people a lot braver then you have shown up here months ago saying the same line you do. yes i think its a sad day for hd-dvd, it was a finished product. Generation 1 players could still play the newest movies. Can blu ray say that? can you answer me that question? probably not, you'll come back with a witty response about how blu ray is the better format and that you, showing up on the day they win, had something to do with it. i was willing to engage you in civilized debate as long as i could, but frankly i don't want to anymore. it's like talking to a brick wall. you hide behind your computer/not even inventive screen name and you take pot shots at people who want to debate the issue and get support for their product. so i leave you to continue doing what you do best, and that is post another Nelson poster or some silly cat saying you lose. good day sir

Scott Baio, I assume your an angry Sony fanboy. Why did Blu-ray win, well this format was created by several companies. Sony just got lucky and ended up on the winning team. Blu-ray is not a $ony proprietary format, if it was it would have failed like Betamax. I know for a fact that it was $ony that oaid off movie studios to endorse Blu-ray, the other companies in the BDA aren't that desperate. The reason Sony is so desperate is because they want to save the PS3.
http://nexgenwars.com/
Unless Microsoft and Nintendo stop selling consoles I doubt the PS3 will ever outsell either one. PS3 is only outselling 360 in Japan and some parts of Europe. In the US the 360 will always outsell the PS3. the 3rd Playstation is doing good in "3rd" place

The PS3 will do for Blu-ray what the PS2 did for DVD.
And you're completely wrong, the PS3 has outsold the 360 in 2008, and will continue to do so now that Blu-ray has won.
Oh, and Blu-ray won because it is the superior format with superior support.
... and, Toshiba was the only company that ever officially payed off a studio, IE, Paramount.
So please, go get some tissues, you look a mess.

Isn't Motorstorm a near launch game that was bundled with the PS3 for a while? The PS3 has very few decent exclusive titles, while the 360 has Bioshock, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon to name a few. The PS3 was doing so poorly Capcom decided to release Devil May Cry 4 for the 360 as well, despite the franchise always being PS2 exclusive. Lets not forget that Sony has revamped their PS2 and still launch exclusive titles for it...

Theotter, you are a moron, you clearly don't understand statistics and that's probably one of the reasons why you thought HD DVD had a chance. Go take a math class or two.
fe_toad, still crying I see? Poor boo boo.
Falcon01, go to Gametrailers.com or gamerankings.com and look it up yourself. UT3 is PS3 only right now, and is better then Halo 3. Motorstorm is better then any off road racing game on 360. Ratchet and Clank is better then any similar type game on 360. Uncharted is something the 360 couldn't even handle as the gametrailers review even said. The 360 is a way outdated machine with inferior technology. Just like HD DVD, it will die. That's why games like Call of Duty 4, Devil May Cry 4, and Assassins creed all play better on the PS3.
Now with Blu-ray winning the war, the PS3 will simply sell even better.
So keep on your crying, it only makes me laugh harder. Thanks!

I am certainly not gonna go out and buy a blu-crap player. I am going to use my HD DVD player to the fullest. While other people are going to be paying crazy money for a blu-crap player. Now. sony can take their time on keeping their prices high for these players, since they don't have any competition now. Too bad Toshiba decided to drop us, since we supported their format. The format was not won because consumers made the choice, but because Sony started to buy the movie studios like sell out warner bros, and fox.

The rest of you really need to learn how to deal with your denial better. The consumers bought Blu-ray by leaps and bounds over HD DVD. That is why the studios went Blu, and why Toshiba was forced to fold so quickly.
Maybe I was expecting too much by thinking a day of crying would be enough for the HD DVD fanatics. Maybe it will take a week before they can think clearly.
Either way, it's lots of fun watching them whine and complain and say how they're still dedicated to a now officially dead format. Good for you guys, keep ramming your heads into the same brick wall!

Theotter26... actually ^he can't, or won't answer because Profile 2.0 content (internet features) were not required to be part of the Blu-ray specs, and cannot be added via firmware/hardware update. Does not affect the other content on the disc though.
FYI - DVD also has (similar) interactive 'CD-Rom' special content, but most people never put the CD in a computer to actually check out that feature.
So, whether the 2.0 content is a big loss to those adopting earlier, all depends on taste, and if one really wants to see that featuure then another player purchase will be required, which surely will come down in price over the next year, as more companies adopt.... such as OPPO DIGITAL forthcoming Blu-ray players.

OMG SCOTTBAIO are you really 46 years old!..... I have never met anyone so immature... please tell me you are in your pre-teens!
Actually in fact you have my pity!... for you to spend what seems to be your entire time flaming users here that maybe offer intelligent discussion. You must have a very dull life.... if you really have a baby on the way go and get some fresh air and actually GROW UP before the baby is born! You have more important things to worry about than flaming people here like a spoilt 10 year old. In fact I bet you are that 'ANGRY GERMAN KID' on that movie that is floating around on YouTube
I don't have Blu-Ray or HD-DVD but anyone who has actually done any unbiased research could see HD-DVD was the better format for the 'END USER'. Frankly Blu-Ray has been a complete mess and needs at least another year to get to HD-DVD's level. Hell when it all kicked off I origionally supported Blu-Ray... but I actually did some research into the matter and frankly I was suprised how bad BLU RAY was initially.... ir still not so good now!. I even see Blu-Ray prices creeping up now
Oh yes and the PS3 as a game machine is average at best.... it will never be any more powerful than the 360... something called 'Unified Shader Architecture'. Go and read any 'LADYBIRD' books on this... if they have any for your level. Assasins Creed PS3 FPS was tragic compared to the 360.
And seriously is 'go cry, you babies' the best you can come up with! HAHAHAHA

HAHAHAHA

It is the only joke he knows. I personally am going to ignore all his future posts. I should have done so from the start. It was a mistake of mine to acknowledge him.

How's that paperweight doing for you? I'm sure it's even inferior at that.
