I really just want to get Sweeney Todd on HD-DVD... that's all I ask of Paramount... ALL I ask.

LH,

Wouldn't it be Ironic if Sweeney Todd starring Johnny Depp was Paramount's last new HD-DVD release. Johnny Depp would have the honor of being the star of the last major release on two dead formats.

That's funny, Movielover!

Hey Mike37... it's ironic your request to Paramount above -

When that SLEEPY HOLLOW LaserDisc was released (the last title in the USA), at the same time the company's Mission: Impossible 2 film was being prepared for a DVD release, and many LaserDisc fans wanted to buy it on that format. Paramount was made aware of this, but no announcement was forthcoming, and a letter-writing campaign was done from some LD supporters, requesting Paramount to put it out on LD here in the USA.

Well, the company did not release M:I-2 on LD here in the USA - BUT they did license it for release to the Japanese LaserDisc market, and several of us LD fans purchased the $50 Japanese edition as an import (and I also picked up the DVD later, on sale for $10). The LD market in Japan lasted about a year longer than the USA, before it's last release in 2000, with the film Bringing Out the Dead.

Also, one of the last USA LD releases (before Sleepy Hollow) was Universal's END OF DAYS - an ironic title for the 'end' of the format. Well, that title was also released on HD-DVD too...

I have the German version of T2 on preorder. It isn't due out until March 30th I hope it's still released.

Which version is that? Because I just got the UK version at xploitedcinema.com for only $22+S&H along with Total Recall for the same price.
In regard to the new releases, I hope Paramount still releases also the Jack Ryan Collection which it should've been out but as we all know Paramount messed up the back cover so they had to delay it. I also hope they release this which I saw on Amazon and I'm so sad to see most likely as a BD title now:

Too bad we are most likely to miss this great collection from Paramount

It's a good question. No one makes Beta tapes, but until recently, people still made laser disc. And LPs are still made for small markets. They're not hard to find if you really want them. Most major music releases sitll come out in small amounts on LP.

So who knows. If its true there's a million of us, and HD-DVD reall are not that expensive to produce, why not produce 200K hd-dvd copies of new films? If people buy them, why not?

Hey MovieLover where would one get a copy of T2 in HD DVD??

And guys do not worry, HD DVD movies will still be produced until there is no more demand for them. Has Universal, Paramount and Dreamworks said that they are dropping HD DVD?

You can either preorder from Amazon germany or buy it from xploited. xploited doesn't' have it up for preorder but I emailed the site and they said they will be stocking it for about 40 dollars. Not bad when you consider it comes in a steel case plus how loaded it is. I was able to breath a sigh of relief. A friend sent me this link

http://www.areadvd.de/news/2008/200802/19_02_2008_02_Kinowelt_HD_DVD.shtml

I don't read German but it says that Kinowelt, the company making the HD-DVD will still be releasing it and any other releases they already have announced.
