Well, I woke up early this morning and read the news. I was greatly disappointed, and yet relieved at the same time.
I received 16 HD-DVDs from Amazon today, bringing my collection to 51 movies. Not bad for a product that I only had the opportunity to take advantage of for 2 months. Hats off to Toshiba, though they were constantly hit below the belt, I really believe they had a great thing going with their low priced hardware, but everyone was too quick to dismiss them. I hope that I can continue to enjoy my collection in the future, so maybe Toshiba will still make some DVD players with HD-DVD capabilities. I think their supporters deserve it.
As to the BR camp, congratulations, you dirty bastards

As much as I continue to hate the format for leaving the PS3 as the only viable solution, there are some people here that supported the format without being part of the PS3 'elitez', so at least they deserve the victory. For now, the BDA can kiss my butt, as I'm staying far away from the format. They may have won the war, but the frustration they have caused left me less than willing to embrace their format. I'm sure that many will go out and happily purchase a BR player now that they are the 'new standard' (do they have standards?), but this tech lover knows better. I bought into HD-DVD because it was affordable and functional, when BR offers me the same thing, without forcing me to buy something I don't need (PS3), then I will make the jump.

Exactly, I am torn between actually buying a PS3 or to actually embrace downloads, don't know. I'm also getting four HD DVD movies I also ordered thru Amazon, but again, I've spent less than $250 including the player in HD DVD products, so I don't feel bad at all, since I can enjoy all the features in ALL the discs. So what will you do? Embrace blu if we can buy at least a $150 player?

I have a A35 that I am keeping but will purchase a Blu-Ray player sometime this year. I really want to get the PS3 but doesn't have the DTS-HD audio decorder so I will wait till the PS3 can be upgraded with that.

They might have quality (well entry level) Blu-ray SA players within 2 or 3 years for $150. If you wait a few years to jump in, you might avoid what I did with standard DVD - double dipping on certain remastered and/or special edition titles already released.

mvckalel, if by the time BR players reach $150 (with full functionality) there hasn't been some BD+ disaster, then I will buy a BR player. I love HD movies, but I don't like to be obligated to purchase something I don't need.

Yep, its been a good run. I have 32 movies in my collection and I'm going to pick up American Gangster on HD DVD friday and probably order at least 5 HD DVDs on Amazon. The fact that LG is going to keep making dual format players to ease our transition is a great thing, even if it is only capable of blu-ray profile 1.1.
I wont buy a PS3 because I know I'd end up buying a few PS3 exclusive games which is exactly why there aren't any better blu-ray player deals out there.

Read my post on the PS3, I'm very happy with mine.
As far as downloads, I dunno...what I've seen on Apple TV looks like shit. It does. It's not only JUST 720p, its compressed to all hell. Even cable on demand is better.
I don't know why they can't just provide 1080p films that take, I dunno, an hour or so to download. I'd wait for that, if the rentals were like 99cents.

Very well said HD_Fanatic, i just bought about 10 HD-DVD movies in the las 5 days, i'm buying as many as i can afford before the prices get jacked up for now being "collectables", and I'm buying a A35 or 30 for my living room (moving my A2 to the bedroom) and a XBOX HD-DVD player for my PC on the game room. I'm going to enjoy my HD-DVD's until all my players die and even when that happens I'm going to ebay to buy a used one. lol
