I've had a few weeks to compare the two formats. I have a2 and a ps3. I have about 30 hddvd's in my collection. So far i have 5 blu ray movies( amazon bogo sale!). So far the only difference i can tell is the number of title's both formats has. Blu ray has a much larger section(no duh more studios lol). Both formats are good, I have no real gripes with either. I will say i like the hddvd title screens better than blu ray, they seem more polished. Also i like the dark red case's over the cheap looking blu case's( very insuffiencent gripe, i know). I will say some postives for blu ray that ive seen so far in PQ is the skin tones on the actors look better, i know that has nothing to do with the format, its all up to the transfer and the condition of the print of the film, but out of the movies i bought on blu ray all of the skin tones look more natural on my tv. Alot of my hddvd collections some of the skin tones look like there bleeding reds around the cheeks. But that could be just a bad transfer or bad print. I do not plan on getting rid of hddvd player or collection, i use it for my main dvd player(standard and hd).

BR skips and sputters less than HD-DVD. HD-DVD extras integration and depth seems much greater than BR. That is important to me, and I hope BR, as it matures, will adopt the general approach that many hd-dvd authors seemed to take.

I have an Xbox 360 HD DVD player and 11 HD DVD titles (300 is being shipped today so kinda 12 I guess.) Never once have I had a playback issue.

thanks for the gainsaying, spoonard, very helpful. Well, nto so much when you consider how many threads we've had about getting certain titles to work. It's a flaw, get over it.

I have my pills Tim no problem, but gainsaying doesn't help, especially when its tied to some silly personal attachment to a format and so goes against common sense.

Wow, the original poster has the exact same opinions as me. I was going to post 99% of what he said. Very weird it's like I was reading my thoughts.

While I would've rather had HD DVD win Blu-Ray winning isn't a huge deal. I would've preferred my 2009-2013-ish film viewing to be on my two Toshiba HD DVD players rather than my PS3. And I'm sure somewhere down the road there will be a dual-player that doesn't make my wallet sweat.

so far, after 40+ titles on each format.

hddvd
better roveral quality on catalog titles.
less grain compared to blue
low price.
better interactivity
less playback issues

blu
protective coating (wether needed or not, works)
faster menus (movement flyes compared to hddvd)
studio support (duh)

-disapointed in alot of catalog titles
the grain is good in newer titles, bad on alot of them
