Sony is adding DTS HD MA support and 7.1 TrueHD support in the next big update for the PS3.

The 360 will never do lossless audio as they are using HDMI 1.2 and 1.3a is required for it. Optical has a limit of 1.5mbit so the best lossless you can get from that is 2.1. I don't know of any technical reason they couldn't add 1080P/24 though.

It's already been confirmed that dts is working closely with SONY to provide an update to have the PS3 internally decode dts HD/MA.

I wonder how MS will address this on the dashboard? At the moment, you have the circular drive symbol split into two, hopefully we'll be able to plug both the HD and BD drives in at the same time. I've only got 9 movies and the HD add-on, but it would be nice to be able to have them both connected to play all discs. I'm sure that's probably relevant even more so for those of you who have a lot of HD discs already. Fingers crossed!

Tony, any links to this? Since it's the last codec to be internally decoded (and I have my PS3 set to PCM), I'm rather looking forward to this. Any hint when this might be available? I hope they give us more music visualizations on the next upgrade too!

This is a bit off-topic, but all of you guys who have an XBOX 360... take a read of my profile - especially Falcon01 (you'll L-O-V-E my bio). Thanks!

Here's an I dea, DUMP a BR drive in the USB xbox case...

I know what you're thinking, Reaggie... but that wouldn't do any good without an update to the XBOX 360's dashboard to support it! If MS does release a blu-ray add-on drive, there would be a driver to support a specific model of blu-ray drive, not just any ol drive hooked-up to it. Someone did pose the question as to how you would choose between the game tray, the HD DVD tray and the blu-ray tray. They came-up with the button split for the dashboard, so I'm sure the geniuses at the XBOX division would figure out a way to choose a third drive, as needed!

You could also just switch between Blu and Red.

Don't know if this has been posted or not but apparently MS is making games developed by players available for download on Xbox360. Hope this link works, I got off the mobile web on my VZW phone and am posting this from my phone...here goes:

Do you have any links confirming this? I'm curious as to how that would happen since the DTS HD internal encoder is not present. Will it be software driven? How good can that be?

Correct me if I am wrong but if you have Power DVD Ultra on a home theater PC like me
you can use the MS HD-DVD drive and enjoy Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, true 7.1 channel Dolby Digital EX already.
I did not bother buying a Blu/HD DVD hybrid drive (can be had for $200 on ebay) because I already have a PS3 so why bother??
But if you are a Green Button fan like me then you can have your cake and eat it too.
