Although it would be a bit of a rip, they could just make a combo player that you could replace the hd dvd add-on with. That way you would still only have one player and not two. Of course, I wouldn't mind having two cause at least it would have blu-ray, but one is so much simpler.

Maybe we can trade our HD DVD drives and they send us a BR one. That would be pretty cool but highly unlikely.

I'm curious as to how that would happen since the DTS HD internal encoder is not present. Will it be software driven? How good can that be?

Whether a decoding algorithm is implemented in software or hardware makes no difference. It's the same algorithm. The advantage of doing it in hardware means that it doesn't eat up your CPU resources as much, which is very important with stand alone machines with slow Celeron processors in them. Of course CPU utilization isn't much of an issue with the PS3.

The advantage of implementing the algorithm in software is that it can be upgraded and improved by simple firmware updates rather than replacing physical chips.

What are you talking about? You said something about dumping a blu-ray drive into the USB XBOX case (this was assumed you were talking about swapping the out the HD DVD drive from the HD DVD add-on drive case).

Are you talking about putting an HD DVD drive (the one from the HD DVD add-on drive?) inside of the XBOX 360?

First of all... opening-up any of the XBOX consoles (or HD DVD add-on drive) will immediately invalidate ANY remaining warranty. On top of that... Microsoft will not repair equipment that has been tampered with (i.e., any XBOX hardware opened)!

Besides... even if the HD DVD drive could be installed into the 360 - why would you want to put extra "wear" on the HD DVD drive, playing games on it?

The XBOX 360 outputs 1080p/60 with HDMI.

They don't need the chip to do DTS HD MA, they will use the Cell CPU and Software.

people, people please. For one thing we have to give it to Sony for pulling it off. I mean really,,this whole time we all thought HD was going to be the one,,then POW!!!. blue ray baby. So now the ball is in Sonys corner and it is not going to take long for all the movie companys to see that selling one blue ray movie is better than selling 3 regular dvds. They to will soon be shrinking. Just like records to cass. to cds to ipods. same stuff just rehashed. I see everyone saying dont buy Sony or Sony this and Sony that,,buy an x-box or something else. Well I have to say sorry. Why would I buy any other. If Sony won,,well Sony won. Why in the hell would I buy a x-box or any other that supported hd. Then have to buy an add on to play blue ray just to keep up. Screw it. Im buying a PS3. I dont have to like Sony,,but it sure seems they have the upper hand and they proved it.

takenbyrs - If you are looking for a Blu Ray player you're right the PS3 is the way to go. If you want a top notch gaming box with the largest catalog of titles then you need to get a XBOX. I'm a huge Sony fanboy and not ashamed to say I supported red and look forward to buying a blue ray player. That is for my movies though. When it comes to gaming you can't beat the Xbox. That's just my honest opnion and I think most gaming sites would agree. Do a google seatch on PS3 vs. Xbox 360 for gaming. The results speak for themselves. As I said though, if it's to watch movies, the PS3 is the best Blu player currently on the market.
