This happened at my local Wal Mart last night. ( I am in the Pittsburgh area) I walked into the electronics department, and wanted to see if there were any HD DVD bargans. What I found was a shelf empty of HD DVD players as well as Blu Ray players. When I asked the guy working there if he had any Blu Ray players, he said that the only Blu Ray player they would be carrying was the PS3. I don't know if this is a store decission, but I was kinda shocked by that.
And no, there were no deals on any HD DVD movies, they were fully stocked at regular prices.

I too went into my local WM (Boston area) this morning to see if they had some bargin HD DVDs. I was very suprised at what I saw. THe HiDef end cap was gone and all the HD disks of BOTH formats were mixed into the New Releases section. Other than a couple of new releases on HD DVD and BD, neither appeared to have been restocked lately. There was a couple of A-30s on the shelves.

Steve they cleaned the shelves at my local Wal Mart. They removed the tags and all. And like he said, they will only carry the PS3.

Kinda smart, the only player that can actually work...oh, and play games too.

Also, Wal-Mart isn't known for being the store where you look your hi-tech equipment, so no big deal.

I'll check out today one or two store and see if they have anything on sale...but now, I doubt that HD DVD discs prices will go that low.

This article doesn't have anything to do with hi def but I thought it was interesting especially after the reports that Wal-Mart's switch dealt the final blow to HD DVD. It appears Wal-Mart is going downhill.

Quote:
Its influence on the economy is profound and lasting. But for the first time, the world's biggest retailer is having a tough time providing what consumers want.

I honestly wouldn't look for HD-DVD Deals there just yet... not until April or May when they said they would stop stocking it.

Wal Mart never really was the place for hi def anyway...like others, my WM always has had a small selection. The one in West Sacramento (equally rivaled only by the hugest Texas store) has had none until recently where there were only four titles at the checkstand. How they expect people to know they've even got those is a mystery. I never really did find anything I've wanted at a Wal Mart.

My local WM still has the end-cap display intact...even organized by popular titles facing outward and catalog titles in alpha order below...same for the BD discs above the HD titles...
