Unlike some reports on the web - and some posts here. HD-DVD owners are not dumping their players and disks - they are buying.

And to be quite honest, why would I not be happy with my HD DVD player?
It continues to work beautifully with HD DVD software as well as SD software.
And as long as the suppliers of software continue to support my HD DVD addiction...Hello, my name is Andy and I have an addiction...I will continue to buy HD DVD software...next up, Beowulf

OK, call me "Happy".
I have 2 HD-A30's and 1 HD-A35, and since the initial firmware updates they work perfectly.
My 2nd P$3 dud is heading back for repair again, but when it was working it worked perfectly too.

I am very happy with HD-DVD and my A2. As a mtter of fact, I just bought last night an A30 and an XBOX HD-DVD add-on. I just got also yesterday from Amazon Matrix Trilogy, T3, and HP and the Order of the Phoenix. I bought today Planet Earth and 2001: Space Odyssey, and I'm buying online imports of Resident Evil Trilogy (who said they're BD exclusive
) and many more.

wil-lite... I hope you're not planning on using the Component Output for expected HD viewing of those RESIDENT EVIL German imports. These HD-DVD versions are among a handful of releases where the distributor actually decided to enforce the 'image constraint token' for any output other than HDMI (you are safe here).
From the HighDefDigest review --
Important Notice: This German 'Resident Evil' disc is one of the first HD DVDs to be flagged with an Image Constraint Token. If your HD DVD player is connected by HDMI to your display, there should be no issue in viewing the movie at its full 1080p resolution. Unfortunately, viewers connected by Component Video will find the image downconverted to 480p Standard Definition. This is extremely disappointing, to say the least.

My HD-A3 is making its way into my relatives bedrooms and livingrooms. Too bad it's too late. I will also keep upconverting my DVDs until Blu Ray is around my pricerange of $100-$150. I spent that much for the HD player so I will not spend andymore for an incomplete format just because Sony says so, I still have the winning format to look forward to, DVD. If DVD could implement the HDi technology for the on screen real time menus, I would just stick with DVD for life.

WOW, $300.
Just $150.01 short of where the general consumer might actually beginning to consider adopting Blu Ray.
That story was so "FUNAI", I laughed so hard that I puked all over my keyboard.
Let me double check my calender, I didn't think that it was April 1st yet..

VC... $300 is MSRP, which means even lower on the internet etc. After several months, and going into the fall/winter sales season, the price will probably be $199 at some local retailers.
See, I told you that cheaper Blu-ray players would be forthcoming, especially by the end of 2008. Just remain patient, and see how well the player performs (check reviews), and any 'profile' issues, etc.
Hope to hear more about the Oppo's future players (and MSRP).

Yey Funai! What Blu Ray player do you own currently, and also plan on getting in near future or recommend other than the Funai.

My Blu-ray player is Sony's Playstation 3 (purchased in June 2007), which I recommend for it's quality and flexibility. Long-term durability is not yet known, as like the Xbox 360, some PS3 owners have experienced some 'player failures' requiring repair or replacement.
Blu-ray player recommendations... wait until May and the summer for Profile 2.0 players to debut. Panasonic BD50 will arrive in May, probably for between $499 to $699 MSRP. And another msg bd members said that two new Sony 'Sapphire' players will debut in the summer, priced at MSRP $349 to $449. Of course, the price is not definite and is subject to change by street date.
So for now, PS3 is recommended. Otherwise wait for the players above, and even MORE players to be announced and released this year, now that the FORMAT WAR is over. (hooray - hehe).
After all... Blu-ray Player Sales Have Increased Significantly (info), recently.

I know it's off subject, but no one has put up the NPD numbers on HDM sales for last week. Has NPD released the numbers yet? Any info helpful, thanx in advance.

If you have a high-speed broadband connection, here's the LINK to the current issue of Home Media Magazine, and the 'numbers' are seen near the back of each issue. You can click the + symbol to increase the type-size for easier reading.

No, I enjoy providing information (and links), and as you know have been 'dual-format' since last July, but UNLIKE YOU I'm not bias for just one hi-def disc format. Also, I written here several times negative reports about Sony (they are not perfect obviously), since joining the msg bd in June 2006.
Again, rather than posting many of these 'commentary' threads, I try to post related info and links, often bringing my own past long video experience as a collector to this board.

Amazon shows a new box for the PS3. The description says Spider-man 3 is still included, but the box doesn't seem to show it - maybe the limited edition has run its course?

HDMI or bust!! lol. I don't mean to sound anal but what's the point of having a HD player (either format) if you are not going to have the appropriate connections to fully enjoy HD? Might as well stick with SD-DVD.
Unless I missunderstood your comment, do you mean to tell me there are some people that actually use the component cables to view HD players????

I haven't heard of any new price drops for either system. The $500 40GB isn't that old, so I wouldn't expect another price drop anytime soon. Since you already have a 360, you might as well just wait for the Blu-Ray add on that we all know is coming. Microsoft has all but confirmed that they are working on it.

A refresher course about hi-def signals and cables -
HDMI - digital (also DVI)
-HD signals supported: 720p, 1080i, 1080p, (1440p <not marketed to consumers)
Component - analog
-HD signals supported: 720p, 1080i, 1080p*
*capable thru component, but no hi-def discs allow it w/HDCP - also standard DVDs cannot be upconverted thru Component (just HDMI).
Many HDTVs before 2004 may ONLY have a component input, so "HD" signals from the hi-def disc players can only be viewed in high-definition thru the Component input.
Until an owner upgrades to a current model TV display (w/HDMI or DVI), "HD" viewing is capable only thru the Component input. But some studios can opt to enforce the 'image restraint token' thru Component, with 'down-conversion' to standard 480p resolution.

This is good news for HD-DVD I suppose, but it's too late for any good news to matter. It is bad news for me though, I was hoping thre would be a a mass consumer migration over to Blu-Ray so I could get tons of HD-DVDs for as cheap as possible. It's not like we're not getting good deals though. Tomorrow I'm going to Best Buy to pick up the $50 360 add on (with the 5 free movies
), then I'm going to hit Amazon and DeepDiscountDVD's clearance sales. Hell, I may even pick up another stand alone player (or two) before the 5 free movie deal expires.
