Amid the rush to wring the last few pennies out of HD DVD's rancid and yellowing corpse, at least one retailer has had the decency to front up and look after its unfortunate customers. Only problem is, it's in Japan.

You even get cash back for any price difference.

No s---! I at least have a good upconverting player. It will become a good backup upconverting player when I get the LG BH200

What's up with people trying to get rid of their HD DVD players? It's not like they have some kind of contagious disease or anything...

If you are afraid of sticking with your discs, just sell them, I'm pretty sure that many of us will buy them for $5 (since they are used) and will pay good to have an extra HD DVD player.

Again, I only spend $250 in HD DVD products (a $98 HD-A2 and 6 HD DVD titles), which makes the $400 blu-ray player, I mean, gaming console, look bad...

I think the people trading in their HD DVD players simply want a Blu-ray player because it is supported by every studio.

Is that so difficult to understand?

We get what you're saying, Inspector Gadget, but why get rid of HD-DVDs when they're still good? For the money you will lose getting rid of them, rebuying the same movies in Blu-Ray and buying a BR player... it just doesn't make any sense. You could save a lot of time and hassle to just buy a combo player.

But that is kinda cool that they are doing that in Japan. That's a level of customer service that you just won't find in America.
