Godfather Triology HD DVD up for preorder at Amazon UK

Seems to good to be true, but there it is. Coming out June 2nd.

i was about to ask you about this one. i added this monster to my and it show the price of 22.22 pounds * 2 = around $45. what do you say? I think we should go for it.

For that price, I think it's a no-brainer and probably a mistake. I preordered so the worst that can happen is that it gets canceled. If the price is wrong, we'd probably get to keep the lower price. We'll see what happens.

I'm definitely interested but I thought most of the European HD DVD authoring businesses were shutting down production?

I would be very surprised if this actually materializes but if it does I'll be buying it.

whats the worst.. they will cancel your order. i think bruce is right that the price might be in error. i think there is no harm in placing the order.

If, as Amazon UK says, it's coming to HD DVD in June, it seems highly unlikely, doesn't it. I mean, by then Paramount should have converted over to Blu-ray.

Needless to say, Paramount do not list a high-def version of "The Godfather" trilogy as upcoming on their press site, and neither Amazon America nor DVD Empire list it.

That said, Paramount undoubtedly have this trilogy (along with the Indiana Jones trilogy) in mind for high-def processing sometime in the future, I hope this year or next. But the odds are it will be BD only.

Certainly Paramount will have gone to Blu-ray by then, but that does not mean they'll have left HD DVD. Neither Universal nor Paramount has said they will be exclusive immediately, and WB is leaving for sure in June. So it's possible Paramount could be releasing in HD DVD at that time, but not very likely. Even more unlikely is this set coming out in the UK. But then again, Band of Brothers came out in Japan last year in HD DVD...

There was a "coming title" page for the Indiana Jones Trilogy in HD-DVD at amazon but it is gone now although it wasn't a pre-order page like for the Godfather. So the Godfather might still make it to HD-DVD. I'm pre-ordering mine too just in case it comes a reality. I got nothing to loose.
