Ridiculous. Years my ass.

The Hi Def versions of these films have already been mastered. Why the hell would Paramount wait years to put out titles already released on Hd_dvd, that makes zero sense. I sense a disturbance in the Fruit.

In fact, and I'm not saying companies will necc act logically, it is logical that once there is one acepted format, it would be time to open the floodgates and offer a lot of great content as an entincement to upgrade to a Hi Def player.

Hendrix, how exactly do you have your tv setup? If I have the HDA2 which does NOT do 24fps will it be beneficial for me to try this or should I just leave my TV the way it is?

lol, Paramount yes, most likely in the next 3 or 4 months. They only have 11 titles exclusive to HD DVD at this point. I'm talking about Universal mainly, and even some of the obscure WB exclusive HD DVD titles like Casablanca and Grand Prix. The word is that sales were very disappointing, so they may not bother for a few years with a few of them. Also, they will be continuing to release other movies, so they won't be keen to clog up the release schedule with back releases from HD DVD's heyday. Timing is everything, and don't expect the release floodgates to open given the market is so small. You have Universal releasing in Blu-ray for the first time, and they'll have to compete with other studios for the Blu-ray dollar. Releasing too many movies at once just means lower sales per release and thus less reason to even bother. They all will come out, of course, but don't expect them all so soon.

Well, as Bruce said, it ALL DEPENDS on your TV display and/or disc player. For example... most HDTVs to date do NOT properly deinterlace 1080i signals, so YES, if you are sending your disc's signal as progressive (or if you have an HDTV with excellent deinterlacing to it's native resolution), then you WILL see a difference between 1080i and p.

See, the problem usually resides in the TV display. VERY FEW models have accurate FULL deinterlacing capability of 1080i. So, say you send the disc signal as 1080i to a TV will poor deinterlacing - the image looks 'soft' and not as clean looking compared to sending the signal in PROGRESSIVE form from the player to the same TV.

With progressive signals from the player, it's the player itself doing the deinterlacing, and most include high-quality chips that do it accurately and in full. Yet, until 2007 models, most HDTVs do NOT - again do NOT - deinterlace 1080i film-based signals(!), so your image quality suffered unless sending progressive signals from the player instead - 480p/720p/1080p

I think 'years' would be the more appropriate word. I'd bet that there will still be exclusive HD DVD titles two years from now. Some titles were brought out mainly to trump the format and some sold poorly. So now that nobody is in a hurry to release catalog movies, expect to wait longer than you think.

That's your opinion and of course entitled to it, but I view it as ludicrous assumptions. By this time next year you'll be able to buy most if not every Universal title that was released on HD DVD. Although I hope that most of them won't be direct port-overs as many have been pretty sub par. As far as Paramount titles are concerned, by the end Summer 2008 every HD exclusive title will be out on Blu-ray. Same goes for those early exclusive WB titles as well.

What makes me laugh is some of the bluray supporters were saying they didn't care for any of the HD DVD exclusives and now you hear them as if their excited to be gettings these same movies.

It's like the story about the guy who wanted these beautiful looking grapes from a tree but couldn't reach them. He tried everything including knocking them off the branch and in the end, after spending the whole day trying to get them, he says Ah I didn't want them anyway!

lol

Falcon... read THIS PAGE (from today on another thread) to see how I have my KURO setup with the inputed signals.

If the XA2 doesn't offer 1080p/24, then the HD signal is being sent in either of these possiblities (based on the owner's setting in the menu) -

1080p/60hz
1080i/60hz
720p/60hz

Since you have a Pioneer plasma, you can choose either of the 1080 settings above, as with the 'p' signal your player is doing the deinterlacing, and with the 'i' signal your TV is providing accurate deinterlacing (and Pioneer is one of the few that do it correctly in ALL modes). Some others do it correctly only IF 'film mode' is selected (like Sharp, Toshiba, JVC, a few Sony/Samsung models etc).

Falcon... with a Pioneer plasma, you have NO worries with regard to the disc signal output you choose. But if using 1080i, check out the image quality when setting your plasma PRO adjustment's "Pure Cinema" mode to SMOOTH - I think you'll like it very much on scenes with motion (whether slow pans, or fast scenes like those 'BOURNE' movies).

Fair enough. At least we both view each other's assumptions in like manner. Don't you think Universal having mostly fresh/improved encodes AND rereleasing (nearly) all of them in the next 12 months is pretty optimistic?

Hey GV... actually Warner hasn't committed to porting over every one of the current HD-DVD exclusives by the summer/fall. Yes, they will certainly release THE MATRIX Trilogy and others, like BATMAN BEGINS, and perhaps CONSTANTINE, V FOR VENDETTA, etc. You know, the for the 'younger PS3 generation'.

But they haven't made any confirmed dates for ALL of those other HD-DVD exclusives for release during this year, and many might not come to Blu-ray until 2009. Titles like -

CASABLANCA
GRAND PRIX
FORBIDDEN PLANET
THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD
...etc

We'll just have to wait and see how soon they get a Blu-ray release. WB -did- recently announce others for 2009 Blu-ray SpEds - like Ben-Hur, The Wizard of Oz, North By Northwest, and a few more classics.
