Don't you think Universal having mostly fresh/improved encodes AND rereleasing (nearly) all of them in the next 12 months is pretty optimistic?
No, because I know they won't "improve/re-encode" most of their HD releases. Universal doing THAT would be wishful thinking on my part. So, since I know most of them will just be ported over from HD, I believe it is YOU who's being pessimistic with your "years away" time frame.

Hey GV... actually Warner hasn't committed to porting over every one of the current HD-DVD exclusives by the summer/fall. Yes, they will certainly release THE MATRIX Trilogy and others, like BATMAN BEGINS, and perhaps CONSTANTINE, V FOR VENDETTA, etc. You know, the for the 'younger PS3 generation'.
I guess us Blu-ray owners then just have to resign to the fact that they will never be released on our format.

Perhaps you're right, but I didn't mean like 4-5 years, but more likely 2-3 years or so (from all studios) And I'm talking about ALL releases and not just most of them. Guess we'll find out.

One more thing Jimi, check out the link below which shows that all of those movies are indeed coming out on Blu-ray this year.

Thanks GV... I haven't checked that site lately. WoW- An American in Paris coming in 1080p to Blu-ray. Please alert John Puccio!
I just love George Gershwin's music(!), and this improved HD edition will be a major improvement over my older LaserDisc.
And WOODSTOCK in 1080p on Blu-ray is a no-brainer, as it features my favorite guitarist - JIMI HENDRIX (hehe)
Another Blu-ray site, I regularly check (thanks to Skyhawk for the link) - CLICK HERE.

Well, that list is not set in stone, and besides, there are about 7 movies missing on it. So Jimi's remark was accurate.
Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't want HD DVD exclusives to make it to Blu-ray. But not so fast where other catalog titles get put on the back burner because they'll only release so many movies at a time. If you think Universal is going to release 25 movies a month, just to get 'caught up' then you are wrong. They will not cannibalize sales just to make Blu-ray fans happier sooner that HD DVD has no more exclusive left, and they will time them according to market conditions. Given that HDM is only about 2 percent of optical sales, they have no reason to rush anything out until a stronger market awaits them. Even with the low release count so far, per title sales have been pathetically low.

Nothing is ever really set in stone now is it. But, that list comes directly from WB themselves and not Blu-ray.com. There is no need to be argumentative just for sake of it.

I hope they release Meet Me in St. Louis as well. I have 'That's Entertainment!', which shows many old musicals and the restoration conditions they are in. An American in Paris looks wonderful in it, but so does Meet Me in St. Louis. The 'Trolley Song' piece was the most impressive cut of HD I saw in the whole set (well, I was a little biased

1) Pee Wee Hermen never sang "Rubber Duckie", philistine.
2) Wrong, and wrong and wrong. I think within a year we'll be seeing 90% of titles already on HD-DVD posrted ove to Blu Ray. A year.

Yeah, the problem that Warner, Universal, and others face in releasing back catalogs, is that they must ALSO SPEND TIME on releasing the many CURRENT releases, and not just in hi-def but for the DVD MARKET (it's primary income producer). This is a big priority to the studios, because of timing in getting the films out ASAP (within 3-6 months of the theatrical run).
So, yes we will see the catalog releases, and some of those HD-DVD exlcusives ported over to Blu-ray, but you can bet that the main priority with the studios is the continual, ongoing home video release of NEW TITLES for sure, and catalog titles second.
And DVD is more important right now than Blu-ray, but the studios are always working for both markets in their releases.
