Now that Blu has won?

All I will say is that ...remember when that dude told Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark to
"Throw me idol, I'll throw you the whip"????
Well consumers threw the idol to Sony and now I have a feeling we won't be seeing too many of those free movies in the future.

I'd like to say first of all that I'm a HD-DVD guy but I'm not flaming I just want to say that I agree with you guys. Like in "The Rock" when in the joint meeteing one general asked another what it'll require to get the jets equiped with thermo-plasma and the second guy said "an act of God". I think it can be the same about the chances of Sony to come out with another free-movie promotion.

However, I think if Sony is to come out with one it'll be to promote the Profile 2.0 players. Mark my words. lol. )

I think we'll see promotions, but I have doubts it will be in the same form we've seen. Blu has a new target now - DVD users. Many of them if not most have not adopted HDTV's yet. I read somewhere that something along the lines of only 25% of TV's out in homes today support any kind of HD, let alone 1080p. I think we'll see promotions geared toward that large segment, and actually I think we're starting to see some of that now.

I've seen several promotions where BD players are 'thrown in' with the purchase of select HDTV's. I think we'll see more of that. There really is no reason to buy into Blu if you don't have the TV to make use of it, and I don't think throwing free movies at them will be enough to get these folks to make a major TV purchase.

I agree Dylo, but another price drop in 1080p HDTVs might be another good point. Most of us don't have the money to drop $1500 for a small HDTV when we can drop less than $1k for a larger 720p monitor. I don't agree with 'throwing' the blu-ray players, since most of them are the old profiles which can't be upgraded later, so it ain't fair, however, is a nice bonus for anybody who buys a new HDTV.

Hopefully the offer will come back again, but like some have said, it would take A LOT for Sony to do something similar, specially for us HD DVD buyers...

Master, master, wheres the dreams that Ive been after?
Master, master, you promised only lies
Laughter, laughter, all I hear and see is laughter
Laughter, laughter, laughing at my cries

Every time I hear that song now, I think of Sony.

I understand your pain, that's what's keeping me from a PS3 today. Guess I'll just go ahead, and not look back. Just take the rule of thumb that there's always a better deal tomorrow. No matter how long you wait.

That's why Wal-Mart is promoting like crazy 720p tv's and is slowing facing out both HD formats in favor of SD-DVD's.
