Can anyone suggest a few decent films set in pre-Vietnam War Vietnam? The only decent one that comes to mind is The Lover, featuring the oh so young Jane March.
Perhaps someone should come up with a variant of one of our American classics and call it Gone with The Nguyen.

You could try the French production 'Indochine', starring Catherine Deneuve or the Vietnamese The Scent of Green Papaya.
