There are a few of you who are undecided as to get into HD DVD and start an inexpensive collection, or wait until the 2.0 profile blu-ray players are in your price range. If cheap is your bag, AND there are titles currently available on HD DVD that you like... go ahead and get an HD DVD player (or 360 add-on drive, if that's an option for you - they are now clearing-out for 50 bucks at Best Buy, and probably elsewhere, too)! Either option before the end of this month (receipt must be dated on or before 2/28/2008) will net you "5" FREE HD DVD movies! If you get the 360 add-on drive, that's like going into Hollywood Video and getting 5 HD DVD movies, and they hand you the 360 HD DVD drive for free!
It's ALL about the movies, and what you CAN get right now (or for the next few months). After that, we'll ALL have to go blu-ray, if we want to "own" a copy of new releases in HD, of movies we can play anytime we want!
The HD DVD players and discs do NOT expire. The discs can become damaged (as with anything else) and the players will eventually breakdown... but if you prepare for such an event (in the latter case) and have a back-up machine to use... you will be fine. Don't count on repairs of these HD DVD players - it would be cheaper to have a spare machine kept in storage. Who knows how long before your HD DVD player would need repair - and if any parts would be available when that time came?!
Oh... and when [or "IF"] a reliable HD combo player ever comes out... I'll bag one of those for sure!

LOL. I appreciate the though. I was on the fence, but now I am going to head to Best Buy tomorrow. $50 for 5 five movies and a player is amazing. I'll use my XBOX to watch movies for now and later on I'll either buy a PS3 or a dual format player.For now I'm going to buy all the HD-DVDs I can, and some Blu-Rays when I find some good deals.
