I just read on CDFreaks.com that Microsoft is switching to Blu-ray for Xbox360. Check out the link below.

Sounds more like speculation.

If it RETAILS FOR $99, I'll buy it, then get a USED x360 for under $200. Then sell my PS3.

I'm sure it will retail at 200. I'd buy it at that price.

I feel that M$ has really dropped the ball by not making an official announcement yet, especially since we all know the Blu-Ray add on is coming. If they were smart they would have made the announcement shortly after Toshiba officially announced the end of HD-DVD, so XBOX owners on people of the fence (of buying either console) wouldn't go out and buy a PS3. I think their only hope is to price the BR add on between $99 - $150 to seriously compete with the PS3. Some people aren't going to be too thrilled with needing to buy an add-on (is it "add on" or "add-on"???) to do the same thing that they could do with the PS3 right out of the box. For non-gamers that just want a cheap BR player, then the XBOX is not even going to be considered because of the add on, and once you buy everything, the PS3 will probably be cheaper. So their only hope now is to prevent XBOX customers from jumping over to the PS3 and to latch onto the people who have yet to buy either console.

will not happen.
sony will not allow M$ to escape punishment so easily. A standalone for 360 will cost at least 400. sony knows why ms supported HDDVD, and sony knows what ms' plans are with digital download. That is why sony is now working to support streaming video to ps3, and is introducing a new psonline store in march

Sony can't do anything about Microsoft putting a blu ray add on on the 360. They also can't price fix it because thats what we in the industry call "fucking illegal".

An add-on is better than having blu-ray built into the 360. Less stress on the systems. We all know the 360 can't take too much stress. Starts turning red and all

Sony doesn't call the shots, as to who can make/sell blu-rat players. Yes, I realized I made a typo, but I like it - so it stays!
I don't think the blu-ray forum would exclude ANY company that would want to be a partner - even a former opponent! It would be in Microsoft's best interest to have a hi-def gaming console that could also play blu-ray discs like the PS3 - even if it is ALWAYS in the form of an add-on drive. That comment about some potential game players being on the fence about which hi-def gaming console to buy, based on HD movie format... is a valid argument!
Someone said that 360 owners aren't going to be happy about having a blu-ray player be external only. Maybe for someone who doesn't own a 360 and wants one, or who has a 360 with an HDMI port and doesn't want to purchase yet another console JUST to have a blu-ray built-in (if that ever happened)! Personally... since I have a really good 360 "Elite" console with the Falcon chip in it, and I already have an external HD DVD drive... I would fully welcome an external blu-ray drive for the 360.
I just hope that if MS does release a blu-ray add-on drive for the 360, that they make it the same styling as the HD DVD add-on drive, but ALL black with a matching black universal media remote - and include a copy of "Jaws", "The Terminator" or "Predator" on blu-ray, with the player!

Schappert also hinted strongly that Microsoft would be unlikely to bother with a Blu-ray drive precisely because the HD-DVD add-on sold poorly.

Microsoft could really put the smack down on Sony if they were able to sell an Xbox 360 and an external Blu-Ray player ofr less than a PS3.

Wouldn't Microsoft be charged a royalty fee just like any manufacturer? I doubt it would be less than $200.

Manufacturing the device is royalty free. It's the movie companies that pay to use the format. And Microsoft has the deep pockets to take a hit money-wise to put out a device that would further hinder the #1 enemy in the HD console market.

If MS does add a Blu add on and keep around the 150 range then
it might deal the PS3 a death blow.
I own a PS3 and it is used 80% for Blu Ray.
Sony would have to rush out its much talked about Home in a hurry and some how
conger up enough buzz worthy games to have a chance against the 360s video library and
Live.
Remember that during the holidays Sony pushed the fact that the PS3 was a Blu Player 1st and game console second.

I was thinking about getting an MS Add-on when it comes out but... I think I'm gonna wait for that MGS4 PS3 Bundle..
