I thought I read a blurb somewhere, that Best Buy and Circuit City will not discount any HD DVD movies. Instead they will send them back to the distributer? Does anyone know if this is true?

I heard just the opposite. They keep selling what they got cause there's still money to be made and some movies are still going to be released on HD DVD until 31 May. WB has also said they will still release a few HDs...don't know if thats changed yet...

Or better yet, Dollar Tree! LOL Well, maybe the Bob Hope double features?

Just because they've stopped making the players doesn't mean the movies will be discounted, they still have the same value they did before, there are just going to be fewer people to sell them too.

Once they get a tally of the movies "everyone has" then those will go to the bargain bins.

A Future Shop entertainment coordinator said that BB Canada & FS were waiting for word from the studios on what they wanted them to do with their HD DVD movie inventory, and expects that when the decision comes it will be a request to send them back rather than being compensated for a fire sale. Since Walmart Canada's HD DVD movie pricing hasn't moved either, I guess they're in the same position right now. It seems such as waste to recall and destroy them, but apparently this procedure is more of the norm in such situations rather than the exception.

Not exactly happy news for us Canadians who are looking forward to local fire sales. We'll know for sure soon enough within the next month or two after the last day & date releases have dried up.

It's been the norm for years in the case of slow selling media, even as far back as far back as the 45 rpm and lp record days. It makes the surviving copies all the more valuable to collectors. On some of these disks, the prices are going to go UP not down. Don't count on fire sales.

Also, it is not to anyone's advantage to have these HD DVDs lingering on the market for a long period of time when The Powers are trying to launch BD into the mainstream. A quick and timely demise works much more to their benefit, therefore, they ae going to make these disks disappear as fast as they can. I expect that many of the April and May and on HD DVDs that have been announced will never see the light of day.

Wolvinator,

It doesn't make me happy either.

CC and BB's main concern is $$$. If they can recoup investment by returning product then they will do so. The consumer doesn't matter because he no longer has a choice. He is going to embrace BD come hell or high water. So why even give him an option, even for a short time? Again, in the eyes of BB and CC, their best bet is to make the option go away and get on with business.

There might be a glimmer of hope, though. Returned disks may not necesseraly be destroyed. They might be resold and end up in places like deepdiscount or overstock. But don't look for rareities there. These will just be the run of the mill slow sellers, titles most collectors already own.

Some rareities will skyrocket in price such as the import Band of Brothers set. Those will become almost impossible to find.

Does anybody know where I can find the B of B set?
