I just liked this movie and thought others would like to know its on HD. Its on Blu in the UK but it has the stupid region coding. I don't know why Fox didn't release this on Blu-ray as soon as it came out on DVD. Well atleast I can enjoy the movie on HD-DVD because its region Free

rangoon... FYI - most Blu-ray discs from all 3 regions (A, B, C) are 'region-free' (not locked). Usually it's the new releases from Fox (occasionally select titles from others) that are locked. Some think one reason New Line was hesitant to release in HD-DVD here in North America, was due to the format NOT actively 'locking' the discs - in fact Pan's Labyrinth was the ONLY North American HD-DVD release, and that was after it had already been released first elsewhere (Europe).
Even though Fox usually locks their Blu-ray new releases, it's not always the case, as even Fox has allowed some releases that are region-free. Link to REGION B Blu-ray releases (the most popular region outside of A, which the USA is part of).

Maybe there will be more than one Blu-ray release edition of DEATH SENTENCE.
Although I recently ordered the BEOWULF Paramout HD-DVD, so far there have been at least 3 Blu-ray editions announced, from Japan, Australia, and the UK <which I know the UK one is indeed 'locked'> so perhaps Blu-ray fans can pick up one of the other editions, if 'region-free'.

All HD-DVD players are region free, but not on SD DVDs. The Blu-ray players are locked but like LH said most discs don't have the lock. Some people have hacked Blu-ray players and made them region free. Oppo is releasing a Blu-ray player and chances are it will be region free!
