Wow. In the wake of HD DVD leaving the market open for Blu-Ray to do whatever thay want, alot of people (Blu supporters mainly) have said that the prices of Blu-Ray hardware and software will begin to drop. Well, Sony themselves have proven that wrong. The first new BD players released from Sony since the fall of HD DVD are priced at $400 and $500. Still FAR from the reach of the average consumer. If they don't start dropping prices soon I think Blu-Ray will indeed be dead in the water with only a tiny percentage of people owning players and the rest sticking with SD DVD and HD VoD services.

Dont be surprised if the first price drop doesnt come until the day after Turkey Day. Even then, I doubt it will be much of a drop

How true, having Blu-ray win is like being forced to shop at the sony store.

Dude, it hasn't even been a month since the war was over.
It's not going to happen overnight, and it definitely won't happen on the brand-new models coming out. Wait until they do, then the older ones will drop significantly.

What like the good old reliable profile 1.0, for $99? Thanks but I'll pass.

Does the "average" consumer have an HDTV on which Blu-ray could be enjoyed? If yes, how much did he/she pay for said HDTV? If that consumer had the funds to purchase an expensive HDTV, do you think he/she will most likely have $3-400 to spare to match that wonderful HDTV up with a Blu-ray player in order to maximize that TV's potential?
I think so.
I think so.

(now down to $29.95 MSRP on various titles, probably more titles to come later)

That's great news. Fox titles were the only ones missing from my Blu-ray collection so far due to their high MSRP's. I just refused to pay such high prices for them, especially for old catalog titles. Incidentally, I got my first Fox Blu-ray mailed to me today. It's From Hell. I got it through Ebay for $17 shipped. Not bad.
