gvortex... Film grain is natural, is no bother to me. Viewers today need to learn that it's part of the director's choice (and his DPhotography), and will be even more obvious in HD. So, I'm more concern about the quality of the film-print, it's color accuracy, HD remastering, and audio codecs
.

LH, I know that film grain is natural and that it is usually the intention of the director for it to be present in certain scenes (except for dark scenes where they're pretty much inevitable), but too many times it becomes distracting. It does bother me occasionally. It is also logical for higher detailed picture to contain more visible grain, but once again it can take away from other more positive (at least to me) aspects of that scene, such as clarity or color saturation.

BTW, I guess I forgot to mention that besides having a lot of grain, the biggest complaint about the Japanese version has been the softness of the picture. Anyway, I'm not jumping to any conclusions because I will still have to see it for myself, but I would be pretty disappointed if most of these reports were to be true. Time will tell I guess.

Prices will fall later on this decade, like next year, or 2010:The Year We Make Contact...with a reliable player...and profile...IF nothing else comes along, like a 4k disc...

Yikes, softness AND grain. It's almost a contradiction in terms. If it's also soft it could be the source, but I doubt it with this movie. Sounds like noise. There is a difference between film grain and noise. Hopefully our upcoming domestic release wont feature this encode, even if from the same master.

I hate to be a skeptic, but I do believe that the Japanese version is that same one that will be released here in the U.S.

gvortex7,

I guess I'll wait until it's reviewed then. It's one of my favorites for the gendre (alien versus Arnold gendre anyway ) Anyway, I wonder also what the audio will be like. The DVD is pretty cool even for audio, with the sound of that revolving machine gun thingy that took down all those trees and stuff. I hope it provides at least a good "punchy" workout for our subs.

It's gonna have DTS-HD MA 5.1 for audio, so I think it's safe to assume that you'll get a workout for your subs and all other speakers that is superior to this movie's DVD counterpart.

For all you f****** idiots who blindly supported the peice of shit Sony, this is exactly why the EU and the US Federal Government needs to step in and investigate based upon antitrust issues associated with this format. If it was Microsoft, you guys would already be bitching and they would already be sued.

By the way, where the hell did all of those dumb ass trolls go? I'm sorry, this article really unnerves me. I will be composing a letter to the FTC this week.
