This looks like an interesting flick. It's a German-made film and most of the actors are German, too. There are a lot of VFX. Does anyone have any reviews of this picture, yet? It is due out in April of this year, but the trailer is on "youtube".

Is this the German version of FLYBOYS?

LOL! I hope NOT! Flyboys ....well, flyboys was just plain awful! Rumor has it that this is supposed to have a better story and much better effects.

Well, if it ends up being as good as "Downfall", I'm certain I'll end up seeing it.

I hope it is good. IMO there aren't enough good movies out there about the First World War. Flyboys was terrible. I didn't like Joyeux Noel, either. (Everything was too "clean" in Joyeux Noel, - the uniforms, the sets, etc. - and there were too many improbable storylines going on there. Who would have dared speak to the Crown Prince the way the opera singer/ army private did? And all that moralizing from an unmarried couple in 1914! It's too modern P.C.) I liked the 1930 version of "All Quiet on the Western Front". The 1979 version was also very good, but it could have been much better.

I agree that there are not enough war films on WW1. I was excited when "Flyboys" came out just because someone out there finally addressed WW1. However, the film did fall flat and didn't quite hit the mark as we've seen with films like "Downfall", "Saving Private Ryan", "Letters from Iwo Jima" or "The Pianist". I won't say that "Flyboys" was terrible, and it does work as a simple popcorn flick, but if you take it too serious it just isn't great.

For Second World War movies, has anyone seen the 1993 German film, "Stalingrad"? The storyline borrowed a great deal from "All Quiet.." (e.g. the hospital scene), but I thought it was well done. It was also refreshing to see a German-made film about the war that went mainstream (as Der Untergang did.)
