I wouldn't exactly call the Matrix original since it is just an updated REMAKE of Alice in Wonderland, and changing the lead to a male actor... a shitty one at that.

MEMENTO is the best with FIGHT CLUB being a close second. I'd also throw EQUILIBRIUM into that mix.

As long as we're just saying original, and good is not a requirement. He is the most pretentious filmmaker on the planet. His "look how quirky I can be!" movies wore out their welcome after Rushmore.

I'd say, if you want originality with quality, look to Guillermo Del Toro, Darren Aronofsky, and, as much as I hate to toot his horn, because he does it so much himself, Quentin Tarantino. Whether you like it or not, just look at the impact he has had on dialogue in film. I happen to like it.
