Print the rebate form and read the fine print, it is pretty specific about the receipt being dated between 10/01/2007 to 2/28/2008.
The requests have to be postmarked by 3/31/2008.

Yeah I know, but I thought that since I paid for the item on the 28th I might be able to get by.

you should have an email confirmation stating that you paid for the product and the date. So you could use that as the sales receipt. Is worth the shot.

I don't know what to say to that, nothing more than what is on the form clearly states 2/28/2008.
If you submit it, all they can do is say no.
I do think they made a serious planning mistake though, the offer should have run to the last day in February, but they forgot that this a leap year and February actually ends on the 29th.
Whether or not they might let that somehow slide is anyones guess, as I don't know how carefully they are checking the dates on the receipts.
They might have a sharpshooter checking the receipts that will automatically toss your submission into the trash, or there might be some 'Dim Bulbs' in the bunch that could miss the 1 day error.
You take a gamble either way.....Good Luck

The real question is will they be able to fill your rebate.

I don't think they came up with the 5 free HD DVD's offer, with the idea that the format would die. I believe the form says offers will be filled while supplies last. Frankly, I don't think the HD DVD forum pulled-in the numbers they were hoping for with the free movies offer. More than likely, they WILL have plenty of copies of each title (especially the stinkers), and they will probably be glad to clear-out as much of their inventory as possible.
Include a hard-copy of your receipt (printout whatever you have on-screen for a sales receipt) AND one of any e-mails you get from the purchase that verifies your purchase (turn on the "full headers" in your e-mail before printing, if they want the details of it, that are pretty hard to fake unless you are an expert at deception). That should be enough. Whatever "proof" you can include with the rebate will ensure they accept your submission. BE SURE TO CIRCLE THE DATE YOU MADE THE PURCHASE ON-LINE, ON THE PRINTOUT! If you use a highlighter, be careful not to smear the printout - if it's an inkjet copy.

I kinda said just said "f" it. There was only one or two titles that I wanted, none of the available free ones were must haves free me anyway. I let someone borrow my car today so I was unable to get to the store. I didn't even bother ordering one off the Best Buy website. I think I may go out and buy one tomorrow and send in the form anyway, just to see if they give me the movies. Chances are they aren't paying close attention, or they might give me the free movies just to get rid of them. I'll let you guys know what happens.

Hmmm... let me give a simple review (i.e., my opinion) of some of the free HD DVD's.
Category "A"
Aeon Flux: Charlize Theron looks GREAT in HD! Movie is so-so. I'm so mesmerized by her beauty, I'm not sure if the movie is really bad or not (did I mention Charlize Theron looks GREAT in HD?)!
The Italian Job: Okay... I don't have this one on HD. I've never even seen the movie before... but if you want to see Charlize Theron in HD, with more normal-looking hair... then this might be enough reason to get it. Did I mention Charlize Theron looks GREAT in HD?
Category "B"
The Hulk: If you think those Spider-man movies are the greatest, then you're probably not going to care how much better The Hulk is - plus... you're probably a blu-ray fan-boy... 'nuff said. The Hulk looks great on DVD. It looks 10-times better on HD DVD. There isn't campy dialogue every 10 minutes, like in the Spider-Man movies... so if you like real comic book stories in a movie, this is one to get.
The Thing: Here's the main reason to get this movie if you like this movie - it's NOT anamorphic/enhanced for 16x9 on standard DVD! This is almost a straight duplicate of the standard DVD version - except for the movie and trailer being in HD. Effects are very good for not having one bit of CGI in the film!
Category "C"
Full Metal Jacket: Is there even a reason to mention which movie to pick in this category? Bullsh*t... you look like you could suck a golfball through a garden hose! If you're lucky enough... you'll get the remastered version sent to you (like I got), not the original HD DVD release. If you get the one with the helmet on the white background, you got ripped!
Category "D"
The Frighteners: I don't think people were used to seeing Michael J. Fox in a dark comedy/action film like this one. Personally... it is Peter Jackson's best, ORIGINAL work that he's done! If you haven't seen Full Metal Jacket, then you won't really appreciate the guy in the cemetery who gives Frank Bannister such a hard time for being there. [HINT: Get "Full Metal Jacket" and "The Frighteners" and watch the other movie, then this one - you'll see]! "
Category "E"
Darkman: This is kind of a tough one! I haven't seen "Black Rain" since it was in the theaters, so I really don't remember it very well. It IS directed by Ridley Scott, and that might be enough to make the choice for some people! "Troy" is another multi-million dollar congestion of C-G-eye pollution. It looks great in HD - and it IS the "Director's Cut" version... but once you've seen it, you've seen it. Darkman is a classic. It's got a fair amount of camp to it, but it's not over the top with it. Seeing the Rob Roy of the Jedi Knights, as a disfigured anti-hero is a whoop! Darkman's girlfriend appears in Aeon Flux, which struck me funny after I recognized her. These free HD DVD offers may have been put together by Kevin Bacon - or maybe by someone connected to him by six degrees!
If all of the free HD DVD's don't float your boat... you can always put those HD DVD's you bought at Hollywood video into their cases, and sell the other movies in regular DVD cases on eBay!
