Will any HD or BR players play imported standard DVDs?

Sorry - NO. (and I'm not aware of a hack available)
All HD-DVD and Blu-ray players are region-coded for their DVD playback, so if in North America, well that's Region 1 only playback (and any Region 0 or Region "ALL" discs only).

Damn, I was hoping I could avoid buying another player. I was hoping I would be done with my XBOX 360 and my PS3 (when I get around to buying one. no hurry), but I guess I'm going to have to get an upconverting region-free player. Any suggestions?

I just sold my region free Upconversion player two weeks ago!!! If I would have known that you you could have bought it. I let it go for like 55 bucks... geesh!
